Brooke Gubacz took advantage of one of the sunny warm days we've been experiencing and went a little snap-happy with her camera in the Keweenaw. She reports that Lake Superior is gradually shedding it's winter coat of ice, with a break-up of the coating near the Isle Royale Queen dock in downtown Copper Harbor to start off with. Then Brooke spotted this icy coating on some shoreline rocks as it is making a slow journey off the rock and will end up eventually floating in the Big Lake, like the large ice float in Brooke's last photo. I would think that the ice has a better chance of melting quicker if it's sitting atop the rocks, rather than submerged in the cold, cold Lake Superior water. Anybody have an idea of what the water temperature is this time of year?

Mary,
This chart was made yesterday evening, most of the lake was foggy or clouded over but the temperatures show the lake warming.

Bob, you beat me to it, made your entry while I was checking out the site. I was watching three eagles checking out the shore this morning - two adults and an immature one. The fish tug "Spirit" is passing by as I type on the way out to check her nets. Lovely day today.

Water temp I think was really cold. I was very careful not to slip on the rocks when taking the pictures. The mini berg was at Agate Beach in Copper Harbor by the State Park and the Ice on a rock was at Esrey Park. It was a beautiful day to wander around.

Great pictures! Looks like it was a lovely day.

CCHS is climbing slowly. (If you move your mouse over the purple bar for CCHS without clicking it, it shows the percentage of votes.) The percentage was at 1.25 a few days ago. Now it's 1.39! Go CCHS!

I vote for CCHS every day, Sisugirl. I know a lot of strays who have
been placed in loving homes from there. And, of course, we have a
stray ourselves...though he came from the Toronto Humane
Society.
