This past weekend, Calumet hosted the Copperdog 150, with 22 teams registered to take part in the 150 mile race and 8 teams for the 30 mile race. Philip Odum was on hand to snap a few shots of the mushers, but I'm not certain if this was the 150 mile or the 30. Maybe Philip can chime in later and give us a little more background. His caption for the top photo was, "I wear the #1 for a reason MUSH!!!!!!!", so I'm assuming that this was the first team to cross the finish line! Philip's third photo shows 5th Street in Calumet, where they had to haul in snow to complete the track. Not something you think about having to do in March here UP North in a normal winter, but the folks in charge of the race got it done.

If you're interested in finding out more about the races, be sure to check out the Copperdog 150 website, where you'll find everything from maps of the race routes, to the results of the races. There's a wealth of information there to explore.

I almost forgot... Happy St. Patrick's Day! Don't forget to wear something green today, whether you're Irish or not! :->

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all! My great-grandmother came to the UP in the late 1800's to the Marquette area from Ireland. Of course, she married a miner from Cornwall, England. You can imagine what her Irish family thought of that relationship! Again, happy St. Pat’s Day!

We were out in Mohawk at 8am to watch them come in. It really was an exciting event and waiting for next year. Do hope all the volunteers will return next year.

Happy St.Paddys Day to all.

What a fantastic event. Hats off not only to the mushers but also to all of the hard working people who made this event possible. Maybe mother nature will be a little more cooperative next year.

We really wanted to see that but it was too busy of a weekend. Hoping for next year.

Fun! It's neat to see these pictures of dogsled races in the U.P. this month and last month. I wish I were up there to see it all in person!

Go CCHS! Catching up to #2 a little every day. Woohoo!

It appears to me that Yoopers have a good time in winter, spring, summer or fall! I love the pictures of the activities that go on at all times during the year.
