Over the weekend, Marquette was host to the UP 200 Sled Dog Races and Brenda Leigh was on hand to capture some of the pre-race activity, along with a good look at the track and just how they manage to set it all up right there in downtown Marquette. I never realized before that they race right down Washington Street, which means it not only has to be cordoned off, but snow has to be hauled in and compacted smoothly for the dogs and mushers to glide over in their quest to be "top dog," so to speak. Looks like a good crowd was on hand, with the Marine Corp League Colorguard standing proudly to help kick off the event.
UP here in the Keweenaw there was a race going on, too, only this one was motorized. The Michigan Tech Winter Baja 2010 was held at the Lake Linden Park on a motorcross-style track made of snow. My brother-in-law, John Drew was there watching the student made cars racing by and stayed around for the "Big Air" competition, too.
So much excitement all in one weekend, it's a good thing we had a few roving photographers around, so we could be in several places at once. Stay tuned for tomorrow... we'll feature some photos from another event that took place over the weekend, this one involving kids and fun!
