There doesn't seem to be as much snow on the ground as usual here in Lake Linden, this winter...due partly to several thaws we've gone through. Because of that, the deer are still moving around more than normal, rather than "yarding up" for the latter part of the winter. The top photo taken by Carl Kiilunen is of a deer near his home in Lake Linden. Carl said he thought it might have been injured, as it was just laying there under the protection of the tree and branches. Maybe he can give us an update on the deer when he sees this on here.... OK Carl?
The remaining photos were snapped at a friend's home, this past Sunday. They feed the deer throughout the winter to help the herd along, through the Sportsman's Club deer feeding program and a live show to watch every day when they put the feed out. Sunday when I took these photos, there were about 34 deer in the yard. They try to spread it out so everyone gets a spot to grab their supper, but no matter how hard you try, there's always going to be one aggressive one that picks a fight with another deer.

I love deer......as long as they stay away from the roads. Thanks for the various views of these beautiful creatures, Mary and Carl. Hope the injured/sick one is okay now.

I still think that the Whitetail Deer are one of the most beautiful animals that God created; right up at the top of the list along with man's best friend.

Mary, nice pictures today. Do you think the deer on the ice could be tagged with a down reaching sonar device? As 2010 is a census year, they could do a fish census while they are roaming around over the lake. (I suspect from the background that they are on one of my favorite fishing lakes). ;>)
Carl, great shot of the nested deer. Hopefully it is not injured.

Great pictures again today. I see 6 to 10 every time that I go to Lake Erie Metropark. I believe they have a no feeding policy but they seem to survive our mid-mild troll winters. At one time I read where in 1900 there were estimated to be 6 million deer in the U.S. and now there are over 100 million and this is even after hunting seasons in most states.

The deer in the top photo has an injury to his left rear leg. I have'nt seen it for a few days now. It beds down mostly at day and moves around at night to feed or maybe it has moved on.

Great photos Mary & Carl. These beautiful creatures so peaceful. Their silent, graceful movements are awesome to watch in the woods.
