Today's trio of photos were sent to me by George Bailey and show the Christmas spirit that abounds in the Copper Harbor area this year. The Community Park is all decked out in lights of various colors and designs, creating quite a superb display. This masterpiece must be bright enough to be seen by passing freighters that are still out there in the shipping lanes.
I remember as a kid, going for an evening drive to look at the decorations and lights that people had put up. Do folks still do that, I wonder? I just might have to revive that tradition again. It's a great way to get in the Christmas spirit, maybe play a Christmas CD along the way.

Very pretty! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! We still drive about to see Christmas light displays. It no longer takes much distance or time now that this used to be rural area we live in has gone from farm fields to new housing developements.

Thanks Mary! Wonderful choices for today's pictures. And to be provided by none other than George Bailey - what could be more perfect for Christmas?
Funny you should mention going to look at lights - we decided to revive that tradition this year! Wish we could go to Copper Harbor to see these.
Yes, people still do drive around to look at the lights. Fewer people seem to decorate the outside of their homes these days. Is it because they are too busy, too lazy, or too cold? This year I managed only to put up a door wreath on the outside. My excuse was I was too busy.

Ironic that going to see Christmas decorated houses again was mentioned. We went out last eve here in Monroe county and took along our son and his family that are visiting from California for the Christmas season. Yes they enjoyed it especially now that we have a few inches of snow to cozy things up.
Merry Christmas to All - Fun pics! That George Bailey is quite a guy!!!

Tom...I noticed that as well. My first guess, considering the economy was that they did not want to run up their electric bill.

When we lived downstate we use to go around looking at Christmas lights all the time. We even use to get out and look at Halloween lights.
Go to this site and vote for The Bowers School Farm.

While driving through Naperville, Ill. recently (western suburb of Chgo) came across a house (just south of North Central College, east of downtown)decorated to the hilt! Lights all over, displays, Santa, Mary and Joseph (in a nice area on their own). They even had the leg lamp from the Christmas Story in an upstairs window. I'm sure the local electric company declared a dividend with all the power they used. Oh the house next door must of decided they weren't even going to try. They put up a large arrow made up of clear lights pointing to next door. Merry Christmas to all.

Nice to see that Christmas is being celebrated all over the world!! Dr. Nat and I have been to 3 different Christmas markets here in Germany (Frankfurt, Koln, and Trier) and in each one people are smiling having a grand time. Of course, we have been taking in the sights and the foods as well. I must say that the bratwurst here is out of this world, and the gluwine is a nice warm treat walking around in the cold winter nights....

The snow in Calumet is deep enough this year that I have had to go out and shovel snow away from the outdoor decorations so that they can be seen from the street! We always drive around town after church on Christmas Eve to look at everyones lights before going home. I wish we had the time to go all the way to the harbor and check out those.

Locally, if you want to see a fine neighborhood display of Christmas lights, drive south on Green Acres Rd from the M26 intersection; I think this is the finest display of holiday lights in the Copper Country, and the neighborhood as been doing this for several years....a half mile of house to house lights!
