With the winter snows having held off until just in the past 2 weeks, the shores of Lake Superior haven't had a chance to build up the mountains of ice she usually accumulates for the winter months. Shawn and Brian Malone bring us a photo of the Big Lake's shores as they look with just a white covering and the beginnings of icy coatings on the rocks those waves crash and splash upon. The coloring of the water as it's stopped in mid-spray in the first shot is amazing, as is the crest of the wave in photo number two. Not only does Lake Superior have many moods, but she also displays some beautiful hues of blue and green, depending on her spirit and temper that day.

Good morning everyone!

Was sorry to see the news of the closing of the Smurfit-Stone mill. Had held out hope that somehow it would stay open.

Somewhere, there's a surfer with a wetsuit who's looking at that second picture and drooling.

I love the first picture with just a touch of blue/green in it. That is like a black and white pictures with a touch of bright red in it somewhere. I love those kind of pictures.

Mickill Mouse: You're right, the top one especially looks like a black and white with a touch of teal tinting on mist and foam. Fantastic pictures! (But, oooh, they look cold!) Thanks for sharing these, Shawn/Brian and Mary!

No wonder sailors of the past didn't last long
after a ship wreck. It looks so icy!
