Two weeks ago we were looking at the inside of St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden, so I thought it would be fitting to check out the exterior again, too. The snow was flying around quite a bit, the day that Mickey Hodges snapped the top two photos, just about obscuring the impressive sandstone walls that make the outside of this church almost as impressive as the inside. In Mickey's second shot, you can see the sign that has been a fixture in front of the rectory during office hours, since the parish made a record 1,770 Pork Pies, in just 2 ½ days back in November. Mickey said the number of people that came out to help on that project was outstanding, just goes to show you what a group that works together can accomplish. We just threw in the last photo, so those of you not from the area can see the difference a week makes in the Keweenaw. The last photo was taken one week before the picture above it. Amazing how much snow can accumulate in 7 short days.
In case you're interested in tasting a traditional French-Canadian Tourtière (Pork Pie), St. Joseph Church in Lake Linden still has plenty left (they're frozen now). Pies are $10 and can be purchased by calling 906-296-6851 - Monday thru Friday between the hours of 9:30 am and 4:00 pm.

That church is just beautiful. I have seen/heard some incredible music in there as well. Was it the Moscow Boys Choir one Christmas? I swear..I walked out of there and told my friend..."THAT has got to be what Heaven sounds like"...Fabulous.
That church is so beautiful! I stopped in there before heading to Marquette to burn a candle for my mom before her pacemaker surgery. I'm always awed by it! So gorgeous!

Those pictures do sum up the last week pretty well. That is a beautiful church. We didn't get any pork pies this year so I might have to stop n and get some they are so good.

Amazing pictures of the St Joes today. One week does make it now look like a winter postcard, I can say that as we have no snow yet in Monroe County. I again experimented with making Tourtière (Pork Pie) this year but got them a little tooooo spicy. Will hold of for now. A MERRY CHRISTMAS to all.

By Eddyfitz (Eddyfitz): "making Tourtière … but got them a little tooooo spicy."} Tourtière + tooooo spicy = torture?
It's a tradition in our family that goes back a long way to have pork pie on Christmas Eve so I will be preparing them soon. I like them but they just don't taste like me Gram's even though it's her recipe. Do they ever taste like your Grandma's or your Mom's?!!! My family loves mine but they don't have anyone else's to compare them to. That church is really so beautiful, I'm glad it has the traditional old look to it rather than the modern look like some.

I realy enjoy the choir, directed by Dave Short. I wish they would make a cd & put it on utube. Every one could enjoy it.

Does St. Joseph send out their pork pies via mail or just for walk-ins and orders there? I guess I could call and find out...Thanks! Keep warm up there folks...
It was 74+ here in N/C TX today but we have already had snow flurries and more crazy weather on the way. Hope you all have a great week!
Mary says: Just walk-ins, Sandy. They aren't set up for mailing them out like Pasty Central is for Pasty Orders.
