Who took the picture that begins Saturday's Day in History?

By Sconie (Sconie) on Saturday, November 28, 2009 - 05:39 am:

Absolutely no idea who took the photo----though, that said, the pic looks like the (now closed) Aetna Mine Road bridge where it crosses over the Montreal River.

Here's a hint: it's also in today's Decade Review

As always I enjoy all the pictures and I will admit this was just dumb luck on my part. Nice weather today in N. Illinois. Hope everyone enjoys the day no matter where you are.

Dolly was one of the first people to appear on the Pasty Cam, back in 1996 when we first put on pictures of the folks at Still Waters making pasties. If you click the link at the bottom of any page for "Making Pasties", Dolly is in the kitchen.

The photo she took in 2001 was in the backyard of their Trap Rock Valley home.

Wow!! What a great view to have in your background!

Beautiful picture!

Aetna Mine facts: per Steven's Copper Handbook, Vol. V. Aetna operated from 1863 until 1873, producing a total of 144,881 pounds of refined copper.

IMO, most likely opened due to the doubling of copper prices with the onset of the Civil War. The sparse site is still viewable, if one is determined enough to make the trek.
