Goodness Carole; all those shots and only managed to get half the bird. I sure hope Uncle Chuck and the crew are doing better at Little Betsy!! ;-)

Capt Paul

In my haste to be the first to get the early bird I always manage to mess up (plus I am at work so that does not help).

Thanks!

Do you remember when it was WMPL?

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 - 12:27 pm:

Uncle Chuck and crew are doing great at Little Betsy! I just spoke to them this morning. Uncle Mike was in the woods for that last ditch, trying to get that deer. He leaves tonight for Detroit. Uncle Chuck and Marty get a few more days to enjoy that beautiful north country!!

"Do you remember when it was WMPL?"

Youbetcha, when Houghton/Hancock/Calumet had (only) two, count 'em two AM radio stations (and no FM stations):
"Wimple" (WMPL, 920kHz, AM) & "Whiff-diff" (WHDF, 1400kHz, AM)!
("Wimple" - WMPL-AM is still on the air, no?)

By Musicteacher (Musicteacher) on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 - 02:44 pm:

WMPL became WKMJ....93.5 FM and then WHDF was changed to WCCY and became a country station....1400 am. When I came to the UP from below, they were our only radio stations, and WLUP and WNMU were the only tv stations. The weather channel was a camera aimed at a thermometer at the cable office. Seems like the dark ages today.

Wonderful pictures.

My mom had Jan Tucker on Wimple radio every day.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 - 06:31 pm:

I remember Jan. I also listened to her every day.

WMPL--Miller, Paulson & Luchase the original owners. I was on a few saturday morning school talk sessions there in Hancock.

It's too bad that the Keweenaw no longer has any true local radio stations. Almost all of their programming is syndicated and the so called "Keweenaw-Report" is about a 60-second blurb and that's it for local news. Sure do miss Dick Storm, he was a good local newsman.
