When John Gaedt was driving around in the southern half of the U.P., he spotted some odd looking characters, first in the town of Rapid River. Seems like these guys are getting ready to hit the lake and do some fall fishing, complete with their dog in tow. With the cooler weather we've been having, I was somewhat surprised to see that big fly off the stern of the canoe. Hope they have their bug repellent on. As John continued his travels he ran across this farmer and his cow, guarding their field along US 2 on the way to Manistique. I'm glad that farmer had a hold on that Holstein, otherwise it might have chased John away, like a good guard cow does. ;->
After seeing that large fly in the top photo, I was reminded of a photo I snapped a few months back, in Marquette. We were coming out of an establishment, when I spotted this giant mosquito on the roof of a garage across the street. That bug sure looks like it could do some serious damage if it decided to feast on someone's arm. Hopefully the colder weather has extinguished that bug, too.

I've always admired this form of art! I think the giant mosquito on the garage would stir quite a bit of talk in my neighborhood. Either way, I really like the idea behind it all. Thanks for the fun photos!

I see several pieces of this art around Texas where I live. Most are wild animals you'd find in a circus...of course cowboys and horses people have at the entrance to their ranches. Some are pretty neat like the one here.
