2003, great picture of Art Chaput of Hubbell. He and his family were our neighbors. He still lives in the old neighborhood.

The 2000 photo is amazing, it's like a painting.

Charging solar batteries with a good old reliable gas powered generator....Fossil fuels to the rescue again..... Can't get along without them, can we??????

By James Ludos (Homesick) on Monday, October 19, 2009 - 09:59 am:

I couldn't help but notice the Maki binding on the snowshoe in the 2003 photo. Simple, easy to use, and no ice cakes on the laces, 'cause there isn't any. Easy on, easy off, yet your boot stays put.

Beautiful review again today! Can't wait-25 more days until we're U.P. bound, and we won't slow down for dead raccoons or joggers!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, October 19, 2009 - 01:48 pm:

Uncle Chuck, Does that mean that neither h*ll nor high water will slow down or keep you away, too, LOL! Seriously, I hope you & all of the other "hunters" have a great season, whether you are there to get a deer, or not! (Although, from what I have heard, the deer herd in Michigan could sure use some serious thinning out this year. Is that right?)

BTW, I have always heard tales, of deer season, where wives have put notes in their husbands' gun cases, but since the husbands never even opened their gun cases, well...you get the picture. :-P

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Monday, October 19, 2009 - 02:05 pm:

Car/truck deer season is open here in Eastern Iowa. As soon as farmer's started picking corn fields, the deer are jumping out into roads/highways. It will become even wilder when the rut begins. Good business for body shops after a long and very slow summer!

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Monday, October 19, 2009 - 02:29 pm:

Marianne, Uncle Chuck and Marty never open the gun cases anymore. So they would never see the surprise. They just want you to believe they are mighty hunters. Instead, they ride in the woods in Marty's 4X4 and see if they can get stuck. If they do, they are on their own this year because Uncle Charlie and Nephew Ben will not be there this year to pull them out!

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Monday, October 19, 2009 - 02:37 pm:

On a serious note, that is so true, Janie T. In fact, a guy on a motorcycle was killed over the weekend, as a result of colliding with a deer. In fact, there have been a lot of car-deer collisions for a couple of months now, unfortunately. That's part of why the deer herds need to be seriously thinned. My son hit a deer on I-75, not far south of the Mackinac Bridge, on the way home from Da Tech for Christmas Break '07, after dark.

Norma, I figured that, about their gun cases. Oops, if they get stuck, if they don't have an easy way out! I hope they have fun, anyway, with no oops's.

By Uncle Chuck at Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Monday, October 19, 2009 - 02:52 pm:

Marianne, neither wind, rain, sleet all that stuff will not stop us, we'll be Keweenaw bound! As far as the note in my gun case, no she verbally tells me before I leave, ie, stay out of the ••••••, and, you don't have to eat out all the time. Yes, the herd needs to be thinned out.

Sister's comments- we always take the guns out, plus we've got some new fire power to try out, we may not see a buck, but we'll sight em in! 4 wheelin is always fun and as far as Charlie and Ben not being there, they haven't been there in a couple of years anyway, Mike, Marty and I will get along just fine, we always do!

we'll miss grampa Norm forsure, but we'll still have our lunch and bull sessions with our relatives when they come down to camp.

Helsinki's Booming Norman!

We took a ride to Port Huron and we stopped by the Blue Water Bridge. As we were standing by the water and watching the people fish, an elderly man came down to go fishing. We said hello to each other and he stopped with his fishing poles in hand and said, ' My wife is cooking and told me to get out, so here I am.' He said he never keeps what he catches, he just gets out of the house. ;O)

I thought about you guys' missing Grandpa Norm, earlier. I know you guys will really be missing him. The first time always seems to be the hardest, at least it was for me. We're thinking about you & sending good vibes for a safe & happy "hunting" time UP there! :-)
