Sorry, an eagle only has two legs. Pardon me while I finish my coffee.

I was wondering about that as well, Alex. You know Charlie likes to trip us up some mornings, especially before most everyone has had their coffee. I don't have to worry about that though; I don't drink coffee.... ;-)

Sounds like words to the wise, Capt. I have been contemplating giving up the java for a while now.

Good morning! When I read your eagle comment, Alex, I laughed out loud! Thanks for making my morning!
Have a great day everybody! TGIF is right, Capt!

A week ago, we spent a few days camping at the Sunset Bay campground in Keweenaw County. The weather was very nice and we had a good time. One of the things we tried to do while there was go to Keystone Bay, one of the more remote and beautiful places on the peninsula. Unfortunately, the road going in there (off the Mandan Loop) is now blocked by a gate and in another place, a big berm of dirt. My question is, who owns the property, and why is it blocked? The last time we were there (several yers ago), on a trip guided by the late Jim Rooks, we found a lot of litter left behind by ignorant people, perhaps that is the reason for the non-access. It is a shame because Keystone is truly a special place.
By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, October 2, 2009 - 01:32 pm:
I have a feeling the trail back to Keystone Bay is blocked off because too many foolish people in unprepared vehicles tried to cross the beaver pond about 1/4 mile off the Mandan Road and got their vehicle swamped. I know as of August you could still walk back there, although I've always said the best way to Keystone Bay is by boat anyways.....

RIO WON, CHICAGO O.... Now how did that happen??????
By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Friday, October 2, 2009 - 04:03 pm:
Rio won !!!! good. Obama and Oprah went over there to show some power, but it backfired.Maybe if they stayed out of it, just maybe.

If Obama was not from Chicago would he have taken Air Force One on behalf of another city? I am quite sure this should be on another page.....

Just where is Keystone Bay? On the east side of the peninsula? North of Bete Gres?
By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Friday, October 2, 2009 - 06:13 pm:
Tom it is past Copper Harbor at the end of 41.
By Ned Aldridge (Nedjames) on Friday, October 2, 2009 - 08:13 pm:
Actually, the road across the beaver dam has been repaired with mine rock so it is no big deal getting past that. You still have to drive through the water but with a high clearance vehicle, no problem. It is quite a ways past the dam that the road is blocked. A different way in (not across the dam) is where the gate is. Keystone is on the "underside" of the peninsula, east of the Point.

All wonderful, especially the Autumn scenes, and the 1960 photo. BTW, US-41's southern terminus is near Miami, Florida.
