Thanks to Erik Nordberg we have a glimpse of life in the U.P. back in the 50's at Halloween time. Here's the caption for the photos in the MTU Archives.

Tricks and Treats - Among the Houghton students who will participate in the drive for "Coin Treats" tonight will be, left to right, Jim Figge, president of the Houghton Student Council, Lois Laitinen and Peggy Chamberlain. Proceeds will go to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund. The trio visited the home of Mrs. Clyde Work in East Houghton Tuesday evening where they received treats from Mrs. Work, pictured on left, and Mrs. Corbin Eddy.
Parade- Teachers in card shark costumes, teachers with mustachios, a la handlebar and ghostlike teachers in white all promenaded to lend enthusiasm and zest to the Hancock School System lower grades Halloween parade down Quincy St. Friday afternoon. Who says the law enforcement boys don't like legitimate and entertaining Halloween displays? Not Chief Fred Paulson, left, and Sgt. Joseph Karry. Here they are holding a bewitching prankster Linda Nolan just before the parade got off in the direction of Quincy and Reservation. The two lawmen experienced no trouble with the 175 charges they had to supervise. The long march was orderly despite its noisy aspects.
Thanks again to Erik for their tireless work at the MTU Archives that preserves the memories of former days here in the U.P., and thanks for sharing them through the years here on the Pasty Cam.

Have a good week :o)

I can still remember dressing up somewhat and going door to door for Trick or Treat. One time as a little tyke we had forgotten what time it was and knocked on a good neighbors door at 10:00 and got a good chewing out about being out so late. Their treat of a big orange was consummed as we got back home.

I remember being dressed as a clown (when I was about 3 or 4) in the Barkley Apartment Building in Detroit, being with my older cousin as we went from door to door and floor to floor Trick or Treating. Two of my mother's cousins and two of her sisters also lived there. I remember it being a fun time. :o) 'Course the Barkley Building was torn down many years ago.
