Joyce Tormala captured a very peaceful looking scene, with Lake Superior so calm, there's nary a ripple on her surface. But wait, who is that lying peacefully by the gnarly old tree on the shoreline? Why it's Joyce's trusty walking partner, Paco and he seems to be waiting patiently for her to take this photo, so he can get on with his explorations of the beach. Those beach days are beginning to be numbered with fall quickly approaching. Joyce's second photo is a reminder of that, with the lone colored leaf, floating on it's way to wherever this flowing water will take it next. A few trees have already begun to turn, but before too long, they'll all be changing colors and we'll be well into fall here UP North.

I'm hoping those fall colors hold off until I get there in October.

Paco looks quite dapper sporting his fall colored coat ready for the UP-coming cool fall nights.

I live off Pleasantview Road NE of Harbor Springs, and we have a lot of color already in the trees that turn early. Some mountain maples are tomato-colored, and stressed sugar maples are orange. The poison ivy is still green, and I look for it to turn red to know autumn is really here.

Nice photos! Paco is so cute. What kind of pup is he? He looks like a Swedish Lapphund.

When are you going, Kosk? We leave here on the 9th of October, I believe!
By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 - 07:43 am:
Deb,
We'll be UP the same weekend. That's Canadian Thanksgiving, so it's a three day weekend Hooray!
By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 - 06:11 pm:
Kosk, I have 2 admit Canada's Thanksgiving is much more attractive with the colourful Autumn leaves on the trees, whereas, the leaves are off the trees by the time U.S. Thanksgiving arrives. Not that I mind, but Canada's is more attractive.

Thomas--The timing for colored leaves does work better with Canadian Thanksgiving in the North...and North is where I almost always am.
Still...I love American Thanksgiving. It will always be one of my favorite holidays.
