If you're familiar with the shoreline of Lake Superior as it surrounds the entire Upper Peninsula, you know that it varies from sand to sandstone, from pebble to conglomerate rock formations and everything in-between. Today's photos, brought to us by David Woon, were taken on Hunter's Point in Copper Harbor, where there are plenty of small stones peppering the shoreline, just waiting for the next rock hound to comb her shores for treasures. You can see the mingling of the large rock formations, along with those small stones for picking, while the Big Lake splashes her waters up and around them all. I wonder if there are any agates just waiting to be spotted in that second photo? :->

It's amazing how the shoreline changes from spot to spot. Out here, along the North Shore, it's very rocky but so beautiful! My favorite will always be the beautiful white sand beaches. Though the rocky shores have a beauty all their own.

That's a rather different beach view. David does so many neat photos and I always end up using one of his as a background. But then we have many other great photographers on pasty. The 2nd photo makes me anxious to get some more stones for a jar to put on my window sill at my new place when I get moved. Always put a couple drops of bleach in it to keep the water clean tho,

I like Hunters Point, its pretty. Easier hike than the trails behind Lake Fanny Hooe also if anyone wants to try it.

its the lake side of hunters point not the harbor side.

I have not heard of Hunters Point. Is it on Potters Island or across the bay at the light house area. At any rate, I want to be there right now.

Nice lakeshore trap deposits and yes, scattered among those beach rocks are some nice agates....

What lovely photos -- I'm always so glad that the point was saved from development. It's a beautiful place during all times of the year (and it has beautiful blue ice during the winter!).

Richard -- Hunter's point is the point of land which stretches out from the west side of the harbor. Porter's Island lies just off of its end, almost connected to it in fact.

This seems like a good time to thank all of the conservationists that have worked so hard over the years and raised so much money to protect areas such as Hunter's Point and protect it from development and insure access to future generations. Two of my favorite hikes in the Copper Harbor area are the Horseshoe Harbor and Estivant Pines hikes. Groups like the Nature Conservancy and the Michigan Nature Association have worked tirelessly on projects like this for years. It's too bad we didn't have more conservationists 100-150 years ago so we could have preserved more of our ancient forests and pristine beaches and riverfronts.
