We've seen the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse before, but I'm not sure we've ever featured both the flashing white and the red guiding lights as they rotate up in the tower. Thanks to Deb Simons we get to enjoy both of them here today. She had to show some patience as she waited for the rotation and then had to be quick enough on the draw to snap the shutter at the precise moment each color came around.

With Deb's pictures today, I just noticed that the part of the light tower facing Lake Superior, is actually painted white, rather than brick colored like the opposite side. Does anyone know if this is just a color scheme with no particular meaning or is it something with significance to help boaters navigate better?

Eagle Harbor was on the must-visit list when the former Pasty girl Becky Howard was here last month with her husband Bryan and daughter Kira. We had a great visit with the family.

Happy Birthday "KIRA". You share your special day with my GRAND-SON ALEX and my brand new 2009 model GREAT GRAND Daughter CHAREY NEVAEH. By the way Alex is Charey's uncle. Charey was born this morning at 8:05 A.M., and tipping the scales at 7"3oz.- in Nashville, Tennessee. Mother Shania is doing just fine, father Phillip is the one we were worried about. But he seemed to come out OK.

Mariners began complaining that the faded red brick of the Eagle Harbor tower was difficult to see against gray skies during daylight hours, and to help the tower serve as a more effective day mark, the tower sides facing the lake were given a coat of bright white paint on April 13, 1925.

Mary says: Thanks Rob, I knew there must be a good reason for that!
