Barb Bouwkamp was out in search of some berries for pie making. She found the blueberries ripening out in the Rice Lake area, but as most berry pickers, wouldn't give out the exact location! The raspberries weren't quite as plentiful, but then it's just about the end of their season, so Barb was lucky to get the partial pail full that she did. Both these berry bushes sure are bright and colorful, making you want to reach right through your computer screen and snatch some off the bush or sneak a few out of Barb's pail.

My own secret raspberry spot is mostly spent, but it looks like blackberries are going to be ready soon!

Those look good enough to eat. My hubby came across some wild grapes and made grape jelly yesterday!!! He's hoping the blackberries are just about right when he goes back UP in about a week. We got pretty many blueberries when we were UP.

The makings for pies, jams/jellies, kolaches(sp?) cereal/ice cream toppings.....

Raspberries and Blackberries are my favorite. The "pail" does look to me to be a pot, a Chamber Pot.

Me and my Ice cream bucket did some berry picking with my whole crew on Sunday. We did all right with the wild blueberries but they take some time.

Suddenly I'm thinking it's a good thing I brought one of my wild blueberry muffins with me today. Otherwise I'd be forced to wait until I got home, then would probably go through the last 4 or 5 of them in one sitting after dealing with the anticipation all day!

Found a great patch of berries a couple weeks ago - saw just how many berries were ripe, and started patting down all my pockets to see if I had something to collect them in. 10 minutes, about 20 sq ft filled a pint baggie (which up until that point had been keeping my roll of field TP dry).

For all the days that are buggy, rainy, too hot, too cold... berry season makes up for it, and means a woods job is worth having. :) I've been getting my fill of blue, straw, rasp, black and thimble berries this year!

We'll be driving to the UP bright and early tomorrow morning, so
that I can help my father drive to the LP. He didn't want to leave
when we did two weeks ago because the blueberry crop was so
good. Since we left, he's picked more than 40 quarts. Pretty good
for a guy who is 87 years young. He is known as the Blueberry
Man. He supplies many, many people with wild blueberries. In fact,
I had blueberry crisp for lunch at work today.

I went to the blueberry farm out by Rice Lake two weeks ago. My first time there.They have both wild and highbush berries.We opted for the wild ones. With the aid of a very clever handheld gadget which I had never seen before, two of us picked an amazing 50lbs in 1 hour. $.80 per pound. A fraction of what you would pay retail. For those without a lot of time or those who don`t know of a place in the woods to pick or those with physical limitations I recommend it highly.

I sure hope this Blueberry virus doesn't make it to da UP from troll land!

Wild blueberries are the best! I wish we could find some here in the LP, since we could not make it UP there this year! Blueberry muffins or blueberry pancakes made with wild blueberries are awesome!
