By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 07:42 pm:

Could you please tell me which breakwater the 2004 picture is taken at? I can't remember ever seeing that sign.

Also, that barn looks like one I saw on the Chassell side when we took the Keweenaw Star boat tour this month. I remember commenting how cool it was. Could somebody tell me if this is the same one?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 08:03 pm:

Thanks for the birthday wishes and songs everyone! We had a nice dinner at Fred Lobster, endless shrimp is not always a good thing. I'm sorry to say you got the age wrong Cindy, I turned 31 today. I think it's required that I stay 2 years older than Pennie.
Thanks again everyone!
Mr. Deb
And I'm still waiting for the answer to my question from a long time ago. How many pasties do you need to cook before you get enough drippings for gravy?

By Uncle Chuck at Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 08:05 pm:

Happy B-day Ron! Hope it was a great one!

Chuck

P.S. How's the shoulder holdin U.P.?

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 08:18 pm:

Happy Birthday, Ron. Hope it's been a great day for you. 31 sounds good to me.

Deb S -

That's the sign on the breakwater in the Upper Harbor in Marquette.

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 08:30 pm:

Hello all. for Deb S. The 2004 picture was taken at the Upper Harbor breakwall in Marquette. It's there to remind people how deadly the breakwall and Lake Superior can be.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 08:57 pm:

Thanks Uncle Chuck and Charlotte! Had a pretty good day.
The shoulder is still the same, not holding UP much of anything.
Mr. Deb

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 10:09 pm:

Thanks for the answer to my question about the breakwall guys. No wonder I've not seen it as I've not been there. Yes, Lake Superior waves are nothing to mess with. I've seen somebody die in that lake and it's not something I'd ever want to see again. It happened out at Little Betsy Uncle Chuck!

By 4WDGreg (4wdgreg) on Sunday, August 30, 2009 - 10:30 pm:

I've walked out on that breakwall. It doesn't matter how wide those things are, they SEEM like they're about one foot wide!
That plaque sadly notes the death of two NMU students from about ten years ago. One fell (or got washed) in and the other jumped in to save him and neither survived.
It's a very sobering message and I was very cautious that day as I toured Presque Isle Park and the rest of the Marquette area. Just a reminder of how wild the U.P. really is.
