Barb Bouwkamp sent in today's photos which she named, "Small town values of Americana". I like that...as it's what our small U.P. towns are known for, enjoying some of the simpler things in life, like a free concert in the park, in this case Daniell Park in Laurium. If this looks like your "cup of tea," then you need to mark your calendar for Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. The park is located at the corner of 3rd and Pewabic streets, right around the corner from the Laurium Manor Inn. Bring your own lawn chair if you want to sit in the park and enjoy the tunes. In case of inclement weather, the concert moves to the George Gipp Arena. Donations are accepted and proceeds from the concessions help to provide future musical entertainment at the park. You still have a chance to catch the remainder of the concerts for the 2009 summer season. So, make a date with your lawnchair at the Daniell Park for the next three Thursdays!

We used to attend the local band concerts in Sterling Il. Loved the music and atmosphere of neighborliness. My favorite concert was the one nearest the 4th of July. They always play the 1812 Overature and of course the ending was the hit. Local fellows shot off the cannon in time with the music. Of course it was done is a harmless way, I don't understand. I believe this season is about done now. Thanks for the memory.

Music in the Park on Thursday's I enjoyed in Oak Park and Royal Oak, MI. many times, but never U.P. North.The music must sound ten times better up there in the air. Just curious if the musicians are all local or do they come from far and wide?

I agree with David. They started having concerts in the park here, Auburn Hills, and it is not the same as in Laurium. It is more of a small town, everybody knows each other, everybody saying 'Hi' to each other, in Laurium. When I went to the concerts here, I just did not get the same feeling as I did in Laurium. The park here is a lot bigger and it is smack-dab on the Cinton River, but it is fixed up for kids to play and run around and BBQ and things like that. Nice park, maybe it is just to big.

I miss the concerts in Laurium.

Oh Yeah! I have to say this. Where Bill does yard work for an elderly couple, there were 2 tiny bunnies. They were no bigger than a baseball. Bill came home and got me and the camera and I got a couple of pictures of them on the womans porch. The woman has a raised, brick enclosed flower bed in front of her porch. It is high enough to stand there and weed the flowers. She found a nest in there. I did not think to put something by the bunnies to show how tiny they were.

just got back from our week stay in Gay and we were able to attend the concert there on the old school grounds. Wonderful afternoon! Hope they have many more. Can't wait to see the school when it gets all fixed.
