It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood here in Lansing. We have today off for the Independence Day holiday and then we (state employees) have Monday off as well as an unpaid furlough day. We've already had one furlough day on 6/19 and we've got 4 more to go before the end of September. Woo hoo! Guess I'll be eating the mac and cheese in the cupboard for a while. Rumor has it that we'll have 20 furlough days next fiscal year. What's a mother to do???

What can you do, Cindy??? We keep seeing postings up there for positions but are a little fearful to apply because of the state of the State. Even though we can't stand living in SE Texas and wish we could return to MI, the quality of life is much better here financially.

On the other hand, living and working here does mean that every once in a while we can escape for a week or two to other places, like the Keweenaw which we will be in less than 3 weeks time.....
