Unless you're a new visitor to the Pasty Cam pages, you know that we always set aside the last day of the month to sit back and remember those we've lost. Today we add the following people to our list and keep them in our thoughts:

David Edgar
John Hoganson
Robert MacDonald
Margaret Perreault
Ferdinand J. Peterlin
Anita White
Troy Woods
The servicemen and women who have given their all

As is always our custom on this remembrance day, we invite you to add the names of friends and loved ones you'd like to hold in memory. Special thanks to Donna MacIntosh for the beautiful sunset to calm our senses, so we can reflect upon our thoughts and memories.

Remembering Grandpa Norm today. He would have been 84 this month and it's just not the same knowing he's not U.P. at Little Betsy. He's greatly missed.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Friday, July 31, 2009 - 02:00 pm:

On behalf of my sisters and brothers, and our several cousins who often visit this site, I am remembering our dear mom, native of Dollar Bay/Woodside, Ruth E. Laplander Smith, May 11, 1917--July 17, 2006 3 years already!

"Do not stand by my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow, I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift upflinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night, Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there, I did not die!"

By Rob (Robze) on Friday, July 31, 2009 - 06:10 pm:

Mary Elizabeth Frye wrote that poem.

By a m hill (Lvcamnotes) on Friday, July 31, 2009 - 09:33 pm:

helen,

thank you so much. it was beautiful. how did you
know the source?

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Friday, July 31, 2009 - 10:07 pm:

a m hill: This poem was the eulogy on my moms funeral service program card at the church service
(Bethel Lutheran, St. Clair Shores MI). It is titled "Do Not Weep" but no credit to the author is noted. I thought it nice to share with everyone here. Yes Helen (Lahelo) thanks for the authors name, I too wonder how you know?

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Friday, July 31, 2009 - 10:52 pm:

Helen I had the impression it might be an Indian/N.A. prayer. Whatever the source I'd love it to be in my own funeral somehow.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, July 31, 2009 - 10:53 pm:

Thinking about my friend who lost her dad a week ago today. It's so hard to lose a parent.

By Therese (Therese) on Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 05:59 am:

Here is one from Nancy Wood that I couldn't find to use when Mom died. It is from a book of poems about the Hopi and Pueblo elders she came to know and love.

A long time I have lived with you
and now we must be going
separately to be together.

Perhaps I shall be the wind
to blur your smooth waters
so that you do not see your face too much.

Perhaps I shall be the star
to guide your uncertain wings
so that you may have direction in the night.

Perhaps I shall be the fire
to separate your thoughts.
so that you do not give up.

Perhaps I shall be the rain
to open up the earth
so that your seed may fall.

Perhaps I shall be the snow
to let your blossoms sleep
so that you may bloom in spring.

Perhaps I shall be the stream
to play a song on the rock
so that you are not alone.

Perhaps I shall be a new mountain
so that you always have a home.
