Today's photos were in Lynn Virtanen's gallery album, under the title "Misery," so I'm assuming this is Misery Bay. It sure looks like it could be and if it isn't well, it's beautiful anyway.

When you look at the first photo from Lynn, you focus on the water and the beach, but then you notice the tracks in the sand. The second photo brings those tracks a little closer for inspection to try to figure out what has left their mark on the beach. Then Lynn let's us in on who they belong to with the last two photos of a snapper turtle, who has dug her way into the sand to lay her eggs. Hopefully she has chosen an out of the way spot, with little traffic. Then those eggs she's laying will hatch and supply this Lake Superior shoreline with more little shellbacks.

Great pictures, though the turtle seems to be saying, Can't a girl
have a moment to herself!!'

Nice pics. I love that area. I'm going to be up there in about a week. Anyone know if there are any good fishing spots around there?

Nice pics indeed, though it looks like the lady is a wood turtle rather than a snapper.

Here's a shot just sent in from RCW (Robert C. Wetton, along with what he had to say about it:

When I just saw the picture of the day it reminded me of what we saw swimming past our place on the 15th past. Wonder were in the heck its was going and where it could find a decent sandy beach around here!! That was the first time seeing that in my 70 years around here!!

Snapping turtles are more terrifying to me than some snakes! Last year when 1/2 of our property was under the floods we had here, we had snappers residing in our front and back yards....one day we had 20! The D.N.R. stopped by and helped us relocate most of them. I no longer go out barefoot!

Ya sure that isn't the famous "Torch Loch" monster?

Mary says: Good one, FRNash! :->

Several of us were at that same spot a couple of years ago around Labor Day and saw the babies--100's of them migrating from the sand banks to the river.

Mary says: Now that would have been a neat photo!
