Mike Rudzi and James Ludos give us a unique *sunrise* perspective of a familiar landmark, if you're acquainted with the Keweenaw Peninsula. Eagle Harbor Lighthouse is just one of many historic icons here in the Copper Country maintained by Keweenaw County Historical Society. The KCHS received an award at yesterday's meeting of the state Historical Society of Michigan, the subject of today's Pasty Cameo.
This is a good opportunity for me to point out a discovery we made recently. Are you familiar with Google Streets? It gives you a 360 degree view of any location on the map in areas where it is available. I had been familiar with Google Streets for some time, but just recently my son Jonathan informed me that Google Streets are now on file for most of the Keweenaw Peninsula. If you look up, for example, Eagle Harbor, Michigan... and pull the little man on top of the zoom gadget on Google Maps, you can roam around the streets of town, looking left and right, up and down, front and back, and EVERYWHERE. It is an amazing feature, of which we give you a little sample in today's Cameo.
Our congratulations to all the hard working volunteers of the Keweenaw County Historical Society, beginning with Virginia Jamison, who accepted the award on behalf of KCHS. We at Pasty Central are proud to be among the 1,000+ members who keep the society moving ahead in its mission of preserving the rich history of this corner of God's Country.
Have a good week :o)
