Yes, we've gone buggy again, thanks to Brenda Leigh, Ashley Byykkonen and Karen Karl. All three who obviously don't mind getting up close and personal with a few of our insect friends.

In the top photo, Brenda captured two ants, transporting their dinner home. She told me that she noticed the spider first and wondered why it was moving sideways. It was only upon closer inspection that she discovered the two ants were bringing this big spider home for dinner... not to join them at the table, but to be their dinner. It's amazing that these tiny insects can haul something that much bigger than they are.

The next photo from Ashley, is focused on the bumble bee feasting on lupine flower nectar, but if you look close, up toward the top of the flower, there's another bug in the shot. It looks to me like it might be an earwig. So Ashley gives us two bugs for the price of one!

Karen completes the trio of bugs with two of them sharing dinner on a thimbleberry blossom. I'm not sure what type of spider this is, since it has quite a different coloring. Neither the bee nor the arachnid seem to be bothered by each other, making it nice to see the insect world can get along and share a meal.

Wow! The Pasty Cam photographers are really taking some professional grade photos lately.
Very Nice!

Beutiful photos! I see that white spider on my roses sometimes; hope it is eating aphids which are in high numbers this year. The tiny lacewings are eating the aphids so I dont spray them.

Very nice macros... I love the ants moving the spider. That's a hard day's work!

I love watching bumble bees! They're so pretty! Thankfully you don't have to get up close and personal if you have a good zoom on your camera.

Like the insect photos. I'm looking out for the hummingbird moth from last year here. Tried to snap some pic but don't have the right camera. They are so interesting to watch. They act just like a hummingbird. But have a probiscus(sp?) instead of a beak. Very interesting critter. Not afraid of me getting up close when I tried to photograph it. It loves the petunias on the deck railing. Thanks Mary for an interesting new subject today.

oh my-that spider pic would be great on a horror movie- enlarged etc.

By Mel, MN (Mehollop) on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 11:27 am:

Kay (Mskatie) - the moth that you're speaking of is a Sphinx moth, and has made a couple appearances on Pasty Cam (one from Sept. 25, 2007 here: https://www.pasty.com/discus/messages/2920/3606.html ). I hope you're able to get a good picture sometime soon! They are really neat critters - I think I've only ever seen one once, but it's something that I'll never forget.

I don't like spiders and snakes
And that ain't what it takes
To make me love you.....

It goes something like that, doesn't it?

By Clara Huhak (Mugga) on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 03:47 pm:

In that second picture, it looks like that poor bee was ambushed by the crab spider.

By Clara Huhak (Mugga) on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 - 03:48 pm:

Sorry, I should have said third picture.
