Excellent photos...looks like Charlie was doing some bird watching in 2008.

Wishing Uncle Chuck @ LittleBetsy and Marty a wonderful trip to the cottage. This is the first time anyone has been there since Grandpa Norm passed away in February. Could be a tough time for both of them. Keep all of us in your prayers because the cottage will be going on the market very soon. And we have all been going there since we were very small children. Have a safe and wonderful weekend!!

BJmilford (Bjmilford):
"Never could spell that right."

Evidently neither could Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who wrote it as "Gitche Gumee" in The Song of Hiawatha.

In the Ojibwe language, the lake is called Gichigami, meaning "big water".

Norma..you and your family are in my thoughts. When my dad passed on, the farm and all his belongings came up for sale. It was difficult to see dad's trucks, farm machinery, etc. all drive away by strangers. What I think tore my heart out the worst was seeing the cattle sold off. They all had names. My hubby and I were very fortunate to be able to buy 20 acres of the 200 acre farm and build our house and have our horses...it is as if I never left home where so many wonderful memories are of growing up and farming along with my dad.

Great pictures.

By Norma in Midland (Normainmidland) on Thursday, May 21, 2009 - 04:26 pm:

Thanks for your note Janie! It will be hard, but we all have our wonderful memories. And maybe in time some of us may purchase land UP there.
