Looking at the picture for 2001, it appears that May 15, 1966 was an 'exciting' day for Calumet and 'Keweenaw'! Can just imagine what happened when all the phone numbers changed.......or maybe folks were so savvy it went off without a hitch!

My grandmother in Bumbletown did not think the "direct dial" was an improvement. When you are older, with poor eyesight and arthritic fingers, it was easier to just pick up the phone and say the number when the operator asked "number please".

I was surprised to find that many places in the Scottish Highlands still use an operator for phone service, not because the technology isn't there, but mostly out of tradition to be able to pick up a phone and here a friendly operator on the other end awaiting your needs.

Of course, it was also interesting to see the little red british phonebooths literally in the middle of nowhere in the Highlands. Some of those places where even sheep don't roam, there was a phonebooth and a RoyalMail box......

Good pics. I like that 1966 phone book cover.

Hey, let me get a jump start on tomorrow's news that will be news. Tomorrow, May 14, is the 8th wedding anniversary of Capt Paul and Dr Nat. Congratulations! You've made it over the first hump. I hope you have something wonderful planned. Tomorrow would have been my 32nd anniversary if I was still married. Wow! I am old.

Thanks for the reminder, Cindy!!! :-P
