Most of the time when I prepare the notes to accompany the photos of the day, I have at least a good idea of what the subjects are, but today, I'm two for four. I know that the top photo, snapped by Judy Byykkonen, is classified as a biennial thistle and considered a weed. It's real name is Burdock, but when I was a kid we knew it as porcupine eggs. :->
The next three photos all come from Donna MacIntosh. Her first one is something sprouting from the ground, but I have no clue what this is, weed or flower. Can anyone help me out with this interesting specimen? Same goes for the next photo of that fuzzy looking pod that has sprouted little red seeds. It kind of reminds me of a pussy willow, but I've never seen one quite like his. Maybe it's the wetness with the droplet hanging off the end, but I honestly have no clue what this interesting bud could be.
Donna's final photo was found in a tree also and she said it was actually quite high up on an apple tree, where there was bark missing here and there all over the tree. She said it was pretty obvious that there was plenty of snow piled up around it, so that the critters could snack off what the tree was offering over the winter. So now the question is... who's hair got left behind. My guess is a hungry deer, looking to feed off the apples that were left on the tree.

That 4th picture is strange. It looks like Santa drove the sleigh a little to close to that tree.

Those ARE pussy willows....don't know the first one, and the hair is high up in the tree!
