Joe Kirkish was recently attending a Calumet Theatre Board meeting, when he happened to glance out the window and see this beautiful sunset in progress. He ran outside with camera in hand, shot a few pix and returned to the meeting feeling very pleased with what he'd done. I'm just pleased that he decided to share them with all of us. The sunset itself is remarkable, but additionally it's framing the old style street lights of downtown Calumet, becomes more than just a lovely sky. Thanks, Joe!

One of those peaceful moments to enjoy nature's artistry.

Ah, thanks Joe! Brings back memories of my seating on my steps in Calumet enjoying the same type of view. Oh! How I miss being there. Thanks again for giving me a piece of HOME!

Beautiful sunset, but ugh! Those totally unshielded streetlights, beaming MOST of their light up into the sky! No wonder Calumet shows up as a bright speck on the pictures of the earth at night! SAVE OUR STARS!!!

The street lights are new, but they are HISTORICAL!! So, that is why they are the way they are.

A big round of applause for Joe Kirkish. One of the finest photographers in the area. A true gentleman and scholar. We are lucky to have him on the Board of Directors for the Calumet Theatre.

What you say is true, and it sure would be nice if Joe would invest some of his photographic talents on getting some more interior photos of the Calumet Theatre on their web site.

It was sorely lacking in photos for far too long!

I see at least at long last they now have two, count them, two(!) decent interior views that must have been recently added to their web site. They could do with quite a few more. A really beautiful place, but a bit of a "secret", in spite of their own web site.

I'm sure it is a bit of a challenge to get real quality photos of the interior, with the lighting issues and all. A few more close up, detail views would be nice to see.

I was in Calumet washing my moms clothes one time. I decided to walk over to the Calumet Theater and take a quick peek and see if there was any kind of information or pamphlets I could get. No sooner then I walked in the door, I was approached by a rather, rude woman, who TOLD me I could not be in the theater. I had NO intention of going down into the theater itself. I just wanted to see if I could get some info. When I said that to her I was told I would have to take the tour. I thanked her and walked out.

Some pictures I saw of the theater are beautiful. Maybe she was having a bad day.;O)

Amen! to Sharon Smith's comment. There's WAY too much light pollution around Escanaba, too. Why doesn't someone design a more efficient light? It's probably done already, but not UP here yet.
