Rivers are pretty busy in these parts, with rain-snow mix overnight. Can you identify at least 4 rivers in today's dacade review?

By Cindy, New Baltimore, MI (Cindy) on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - 05:30 am:

Big Iron River, Eagle River, Tobacco River, Red River, I think.

Technically, and I'm not busting chops here, but technically Cindy is partially correct; here's why:

Charlie wanted 4 rivers named. Cindy lists Big Iron, Eagle, Tobacco, and "Red" rivers. However, if you do a little research, Big Iron and "Red" are the same river, therefore, only 3 have been listed and not the required 4.

In the decade review, there are 4 rivers included. Again, doing a little research, the photo of the new Mackinaw cutter is in Cheboygan Harbour which is at the mouth of the Cheboygan River.

So technically, the answer should have been Big Iron, Eagle, Tobacco, Cheboygan.

How's that for early morning detective work.... ;-)

Nice!

Hello, I'm new here on this web site. My folks bought a summer place in Tapiola and I would like to go up there and paint the place before they head up there from Florida. I would like it to be a little warm (40-50 degrees) at least without the snow. :) Can anyone tell me when I can expect it to be nice enough to paint up there?
I spent many summers up in the UP and have many relatives there. My great grandparents came over from Finland in 1912 or there about.
I am a troll who resides in Jackson Mi., but have thought of myself as a Yooper or at least a part time yooper.
Any info would be appreciated.

Marilynn it is a day by day thing with the UP, There are years I can not make it back to camp until early June do to the road being to wet. It was looking good this year with all the snow being gone and things starting to dry out and then this ;) If you are on a paved road I would have to say mid May it should be nice enough to paint during the day, maybe cool at night yet but that should not hurt.

By Marilynn S. (Marilynn) on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - 10:58 am:

Steve, thanks for the information. It looks like mid May will be the time I venture up there. You all must drive with plows in front of your vehicles all winter . Ha-Ha.

Good pictures.

The Dr. and I are heading UP there this summer in July. You can bet that will have the shorts and t-shirts in the suitcase right along side the winter jacket and gloves; I have seen a use for both in July and August on the Keweenaw......

this message is from my sister who lives in Oberlin, Ohio--another example of how widely pasty.net is viewed:

"I sure wish the person who changes the snow depth (on clicking the Big Thermometer) on pasty.com, would change the total for the year. It's been
at least a foot behind since they changed it the last time."

By Bugsy (Bugsyrocker) on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 - 09:16 pm:

A couple of photos from the big snow in Marquette.

Does anyone know if this is actually the biggest late April storm? Or is TV6 exaggerating? At least one person disagrees in the comments.

By Sheri (Sheri) on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 - 08:08 pm:

I remember several years back that Ontonagon had a wet, heavy snowstorm on Mother's Day. Accumulation was about 12".
