Donna MacIntosh was recently out where the ice is beginning to disappear on Keweenaw Bay, just north of Baraga on US 41. The day she snapped these photos across from Carla's Café, there was still ice in the bay, but further out the view is open water and gorgeous, according to Donna. She also captured the ice a little closer to the shore, where you can see all the cracks and crevices that manifest themselves as the winter's ice cover starts breaking up and melting. I especially like the third photo where the ice chunks along the edge are just about submersed in the chilly waters. It gives us hope that spring weather might really be just around the corner!

That's what we need! Hope. It looks but doesn't feel like spring around here. Would love to be there to see UP spring breaking out. Thanks for nice pics.

Just a piece of trivia...the basketball floor for the Final Four tournament at Ford Field was made by an Upper Peninsula company called Connor Sport Court International in the town of Amasa.

Open water: how lovely! Little Traverse Bay is also breaking up and is more packed ice floes that a solid mass of ice. My crocuses are opening their shining faces on the south side of the house, even though the wind is bitter.

I had just resigned to the fact that the remaining snow pack had morphed into a permenant glacier.

It is cold, windy and damp here. Even though it does not compare to the weather in the U.P., it still has been a cold and damp and wet winter and spring.

Farmer called me from Colorado a bit ago, to tell me these pics were on today....I guess that weather is something none of us would prefer to see. And he just started out that way, leaving sunny, hot Georgia for Colorado!

I'll try to get some of the pictures I took today uploaded...it's a pretty day down here in Baraga!!

Oh...and a side note...I wish you could hear that ice!! The cracking noises are really cool to listen to!!

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Lansing. It was a chilly 36º around 10:00 this morning when I went out for a walk, but it's up to 50º now with the promise of spring.

Enjoy your nice weather that you have in Lansing, today. We have a Winter Storm Watch here in mid-Michigan for tomorrow night and Monday, for 6 inches or more of snow, ugh! The really sad thing is that this is Spring Break week for my kids, sigh! Will the real spring please come quickly?
