All I can say is WOW! Toivo sure gets the exciting jobs. He recently was the tour guide for the Commander-in-Chief's vacation to the Upper Peninsula, where he participated in a variety of winter activities, including ice fishing, with what looks like a pretty good catch for a first timer. Toivo, The Prez, and his sidekick Joe also enjoyed some snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowman building and they even stopped by to meet Charlie, who was more than happy to give our top executive a Pasty shirt to commemorate his visit here. By the looks of these photos Toivo sent in, I'd have to say he made our visitor's trip to the Copper Country quite memorable and fun.

Happy April Fool's Day!

Those are great! Too bad you started with the fist one with our Prez only wearing a suit! LOL Had that one been last, I think you'd have had me going.

Way to go! I bet he'd love those!

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 07:48 am:

Today's pics are too funny! I was thinking about pulling an April Fool's on my employer today...taking a wrong turn in my company car and gas card and heading for the U.P.! Wonder how that would pull off? I better wait til I have more seniority with the company!

By DEAN SCHWARTZ SR. (Lulu) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 07:58 am:

The pictures of the president are very good. But where are the 500 plus traveling with him ? Everyone have a fun "All Fool's Day". Also I want to wish My Aunt Dolores Selby a very Happy Birthday.

By D. Clark (Dcclark) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 07:58 am:

Yup, my students are totally getting a grad school qualifying exam instead of their usual prelab today.

Also, I love the edit on my photo. :D

By Helen Marie Chamberlain (Helen) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 09:21 am:

That's our Prez for you...with all he has going on abroad, he managed to eke a visit to the U.P. to have some fun in the snow and boost our morale in the process! YES!

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 09:47 am:

When April Fools jokes involve large snakes my "friend" almost made the "umph" list with me! I'm not a happy camper when snakes are involved. May all your jokes be harmless...

By Joe P. (Lonewolf) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 10:56 am:

Fitting for April Fools. Pitty we are the real fools. And it might actually be a harmless joke had it not invoked the dismantling of the pillars of our free and independent republic under the false pretenses of expediency, necessity and "crisis mitigation." Anyone reading this that is free of the programming and indoctrination inflicted upon you under the guise of entertainment, relativism and harmonization .....please, for the sake of the sacred trust placed upon you by our founding fathers, stand fast to your principles and remember sovereign political authority comes from you not the government, what we do here and now will echo an eternity, and leadership is more than just a personality contest.

"You have rights antecedent to all earthly governments: rights that cannot be repealed or restrained by human laws; rights derived from the Great Legislator of the universe." – John Adams

"A general dissolution of the principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy.... While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but once they lose their virtue, they will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.... If virtue and knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great security." – Samuel Adams

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." – Samuel Adams

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." – Samuel Adams

The UP prides itself on self sufficiency and rugged adherence to principles, and I pray that this pioneering spirit of independence will be one of the many the bulwarks in any assault against our most sacred liberty.

Today would have been my dads nintyeigth birthday.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 02:57 pm:

Joe: Thank you 4 what you pointed out. We need 2 keep the Spirit of 1776 alive, even within our hearts, if we are 2 overcome the current administration in Washington (BTW, I voted 4 McCain).

By Joe P. (Lonewolf) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 03:00 pm:

Stewart...

Fair winds to you my friend. Let's hope we can wake the silent majority...

Joe

By Joe P. (Lonewolf) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 03:08 pm:

Thomas,

...and to you as well. 2010 elections aren't soon enough my friend, but they can mark a turning point that we can rally around!

"We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...[we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers... And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for[ another]... till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery... And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." – Thomas Jefferson

By Capt. Wm. Thimbleberry (Samsara) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 04:02 pm:

I guess an April Fool's Day joke with amusing photos is enough to set off a few folks! I suspect they were very quiet during the last eight years while the Bush Administration was systematically defacing and dismantling a good number of our civil liberties!

By Joe P. (Lonewolf) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 04:40 pm:

Captain,

Agreed, wholeheartedly. However it gives neither right nor favor to the administration who completes and, indeed, VASTLY accelerates its evolution.

As rightly said by others...WE surround them (www.the912project.com) - just one of the many places for us to start.

By Jeff Kalember (Jeffkal) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 06:12 pm:

Bad news, that third pic down is NOT the UP, its Sweden!!!!! Obama visited our homeland too!!! Cool!!!

By Tim Holland (Tholland) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 08:24 pm:

When I saw the photo of Obama bright and early this morning, I figured this was going to bring on political chatter outside of the "What'sUP" forum, but today that's okay because people are commenting on today's pictures.

I think to be consistent with today's theme and to add some historical emphasis, we should have a few photoshop head shots of Joe Stalin on vacation in the Copper Country. Also, with the Harbor Haus and the Mariner North for sale, I think it is more than apparent that a few bail outs are in order!

By David J. Cobb (Damoose) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 11:17 pm:

Love the pictures and the day in history! Happy Birthday to our "day in history" Emily!

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 - 11:47 pm:

The only thing missing was our commander on the outdoor throne, lol. Great pics, good laughs today.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, April 2, 2009 - 12:47 am:

I sent Joe a e-mail so I don't have to tell him here. There are some of us, if we ever need a Bailout, we better be in Jail.

By Pat & Glenda (Gormfrog) on Thursday, April 2, 2009 - 07:42 am:

By William P. Aubin (Dasfliger) on Thursday, April 2, 2009 - 11:15 am:

This is such a great way to open the the day and say hi to everyone ,why does it have to mucked up with politics? God knows we get enough of that BS all day long!!

By txyooper (Txyooper1) on Thursday, April 2, 2009 - 05:09 pm:

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Thursday, April 2, 2009 - 11:52 pm:
