What's the speed limit on (and under) the Lift Bridge?

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 - 07:01 am:

The only one I see is 25, must be the lift bridge.

Good Morning! I love the closeup picture of the freighter! I'm curious: what is the difference between a Coast Guard cutter & a buoy tender? (I'm thinking that the cutter looks like it could function as a buoy tender, at least when necessary, from the looks of it, anyway?)

I have an old (100 years+) photograph of the lower bridge in Eagle River that has a sign posted on it stating "$10 fine for driving faster than a walk." That must have been a pretty hefty fine in those days.

Under current rules the Coast Guard classifies anything over 65 feet in length as a cutter. Bouy tender refers the function the ship performs. For example the cutter Mackinac is an ice breaker and bouy tender.

Thank you, Bob Jewell, for clearing that up for me! :-)

All great pics. In the Great Lakes freighter pic, I like the ones with the pilot house at the bow.

Thank You for the picture of the lift bridge. I am quite sure that new 'condo' building blocks the view as you are coming from that direction?
