These look like maple leaves that somehow managed to hang on to the branches all winter. Susan Hooker spotted them with a frosted coating from the early morning chill of temperatures. This is the time of year in the Keweenaw, when the temps start out cold enough for you to still need your winter jacket, but then by the time you leave work in the afternoon, your Spring jacket might be all you'll need. We're definitely on the downside of winter, heading into spring. I know, I know, according to the calendar, it IS spring, just not quite here UP North, yet! :->

It's not very Spring-like here in Eastern Iowa either. Snow is expected tomorrow.

Snow is expected in Illinois too. I knew I was raking the yard too soon.

That is an interesting photo. I've never seen maple leaves, still colored, that hung onto the trees all winter before! Thank you, Susan & Mary!

We're supposed to get accumulating snow here in mid-Michigan on Sunday, sigh! I can't wait until spring really comes, with leaves on the trees again, etc. At least our crocuses are starting to bloom!

That looks like a fall picture, I'm not ready for that. Soon those leaves will be green.

By Bruce (Bessemerbj) on Friday, March 27, 2009 - 01:03 pm:

The picture is not conclusive that they are Maple leaves. Some of the leaves have several lobes and the color and characteristics of hanging on all winter are more common with Oak leaves.

By Lisa R. (Sisugirl) on Friday, March 27, 2009 - 01:32 pm:

Maple leaves DO have multiple lobes. Those look like maple leaves to me. Look at the lowest leaf in the center of the picture. The primary veins appear to be coming from a single point near the stem -- typical of maple leaves. Plus, the bark looks like maple to me. Just weighing in....

i'd be surprised if those were maple leaves. the
tree branches/trunks (look like a maple) might be a clue to some
experts. i've seen a couple of trees retaining
leaves over the winter similar to these bordering the entrance
to a rest stop building(east bound on i96) in howell, mi.
i don't recognize the tree.

as usual, i'm puzzled.

The Maple is 1 of my favorite leaves (oak is the other). Good pic.

I'm not sure I can put a picture here like some of you do, but I have a tree that holds all it's leaves "red" in the winter. When spring rolls in they drop and green leaves develop from the bud. It also has these round balls that are empty now and crusty, break easily. I will have to do some research on it. The leaves are such a pretty "rust-red" color.

Veryyyy windy here in Texas tonight. My roof is flaping it's wings! Keep warm! And it dropped to 34 at present.

How do you put a picture here? I don't see any controls to do so.
