With the warmer temperatures we've been experiencing the snow on the roof has been melting fast, dripping and forming icicles as the evening cools down. Joyce Tormala snapped a couple scenes that give you the feel of that melting and cooling down again. It's been a long winter and it might not be completely over yet, but with temperatures reaching the upper 50's recently, one can only hope that spring has truly sprung!

Here's wishing everyone out in PastyLand a happy St. Patrick's Day!

May you live as long as you want,
and never want as long as you live.

ERIN GO BRAGH! MAY YOU BE IN HEAVEN A HALF HOUR BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOUR DEAD.

By Joy Brewer (Joy) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 08:54 am:

Good morning! Happy Saint Patrick's Day! My children were able to celebrate Saint Urho's Day yesterday, because of their heritage on their father's side; today, they are able to celebrate Saint Patrick, because of my family-the Irish, who came to the UP to work in the iron mines in Marquette County. One of my favorite Irish blessings that I want to share with you is (I had it on my key ring for years):
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Joyce, thank you for the photos, especially the one with the white birch trees. I have been blessed today with a photo of my favorite tree on a very special family holiday. Thanks!
Enjoy Saint Patrick's Day!

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 08:54 am:

Happy St Patricks Day everyone.

Happy St Patricks Day to all my Pasty Cam friends. 'There once was a Man from Nantuckett,....Oh the heck with it.... you already know the rest! :P

I think I will be moving soon... to the State of ...Inebriation

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 10:26 am:

Hey Theresa, what's the zip code for that State?

By Theresa R. O'Gorman (Trb0013) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 10:32 am:

Well Paul I don't think they accept mail there... But if I had to guess I would say it was 123123 like an Irish jig.

By Dave Roberts (Shutterbug) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 11:04 am:

As my great grandfather, Patrick David Murphy would have said:

May those that love us, love us.
And those that don’t love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if he doesn’t turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles,
So we’ll know them by their limping.

'Beannachtam na Feile Padraig!'
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

By Joy Brewer (Joy) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 11:40 am:

Dave, someone in my family would say that same little rhyme; it has been years since I heard it. Thanks for sharing it and for bringing back the fond family memory that I had when I read it.

By Joe (Jhurl) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 01:02 pm:

I would like to see a picture of Isle Royale from the top of Brockway Mountain. Ive heard that on a clear day you can see it. Each time ive been there it was too hazy from the heat

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 02:20 pm:

Joe: You can also see Isle Royale from the upper elevations of Allouez.

By Joe (Jhurl) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 02:40 pm:

Marsha , Thanks... I didn't know that . Thats one of many places that I haven't been to.

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 05:21 pm:

These photos are more proof that Pasty.com has great photographers. Happy St. Patrick's Day, 2.

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 05:27 pm:

The best ground view of Isle Royale in the Keweenaw peninsula is from the top of the hill on Phoenix farms road.

By D. Clark (Dcclark) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 05:38 pm:

Neil, is that hill public, or at least "you can hike here if you don't mess it up"? I've been down the road, but never quite willing to go off the road yet.

By Just me (Jaby) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 06:36 pm:

Beautiful photos today!!!

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 07:42 pm:

D. I was talking about the farm road that runs up the hill on South side of US-41 just past the Phoenix store. Just drive to the top and turn around. It has a great view of island. It is a county road but closed for winter.
Maybe you are talking about Elmo's tower on the hill on Eagle River road. That is private but I think they tolerate visitors. At least Elmo did when he was alive. I know a lot of people hike up there but I can't say it is allowed.

By D. Clark (Dcclark) on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 - 07:51 pm:

Neil, I was definitely talking about Phoenix Farms road -- I just never realized that the road itself offered a good view.

I've also been curious about Elmo's tower (been up on top of that bluff a few times, but I was never really sure...). Any clue who to contact now that Elmo has passed?

By Donna (Donna) on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 - 06:03 am:

Thanks Laure and Mary!
