Over the weekend, the Calumet Colosseum (formerly known as the Armory) was host to the District 8 Upper Peninsula PeeWee AA/Bantam AA Finals. The Escanaba Hawks-Bosk, Marquette Sentinels-Remax and Keweenaw Storm-Center Ice were the PeeWee AA teams involved in this division of the tournament.
My nephew Derek plays for the Escanaba Hawks, who were playing the Marquette Sentinels in these photos. Although these youngsters are quite a bit younger than the NHL players, they play with just as much (if not more) heart and I have to say it was much more fun watching these kids skating up and down the ice, too. Derek is the guy moving the puck down the ice in the third photo and in case you can't tell, I'm pretty proud of this young man. He's quite the hockey player and a pretty neat nephew, too. :->
Congrats to all the players, coaches and parents for having made it this far!

I read an article last year about a study that showed that kids who are involved in sports activities are less likely to get involved in drugs, alcohol, etc. due to the detrimental effects that these substances have on physical performance. It advised parents to encourage their kids and to get involved themselves.
