Last week we featured several critter pictures from the Menominee area, taken by Brenda Leigh. Now we're starting the new week with a couple of Brenda's shots from what she calls "Da Swamp," near her home there. I'm not sure how she did it, but in this first photo, the glow emanating around the trees from the rising sun is phenomenal. What a glorious way to start the day!

As if that sunrise isn't enough, Brenda also captured the sun lighting up the horizon as it finished out the day. The icicles on the edge of the shot manage to pick up a bit of the glow, too, giving them a somewhat crystallized appearance.

Looks like Brenda has the best of both worlds, sunrise and sunset, in her corner of the U.P.

Good Monday morning, if there is such a thing....

I believe that's called being in the right place at the right time, Mary!! ;-)

Very interesting day in history today. I like the reference to the national weather service. I am addicted to the NOAA site: weather.gov. Click on the US map and check weather anywhere. Good info on other things like climate change, weather patterns, etc.

We've gotten more snow down here, Motown area, (due to global warming?) just as these meteorologists and climatolgists predicted.

Also, I knew that MI made war equipment for WW2, but I hadn't known that car production was stopped. Interesting!

Great Pictures Brenda! Grampa Norm use to yell "Day light in the swamp" when it was time to get up in the morning, followed by a couple of sunnyside up peppered eggs and burnt toast, mom had already left for work, at least I had a cup of coffee to dunk that toast in! Oh I forgot to mention, I was in the second grade back then, wouldn't trade it for the world! It even tasted better when we were at LB, AHHH Memories!

Must still be crispy cold on the Keweenaw, judging from those nice pics. We're getting a February thaw in Northern lower Michigan, 2-day.

Pretty neat pictures today.

There is a robin that comes around and sits in a tree that has red berries on the branches. He picks a berry and drops it, picks another one and drops, then a couple more times til he picks one and takes off with it. I can stand next to the tree and it just stays there til he picks the right one. The tree is only about 10-12 ft. high. ;O)

Maija, There were no 1943, 1944, 1945, cars or trucks made. (well trucks for the military). 1942 model production stopped quite soon after Pearl Harbor. Many of the 42s went to the military for staff cars. Any 1942 of any make or model still around are and always were quite a rare find. If I recall 1946 models got a late start but thereafter 1947 and after models production and sales were brisk to say the least to catch up the demand for 3 plus years of no new cars available. 46, 47, 48, models of most makes were just warmed over 1942 models. The war created advancements in technology (Necessity is the mother of invention!)by leaps and bounds particulary in aviation which directly influenced and was copied by the automotive industry by the early 50s.

And yes the pics are simply great! Winter beautys!
