These two swingers seem to be blowing in the wind and Keith Meyers snapped up some magic, stopping them in mid-air. It looks like the snow has gotten a good blowing around there at McLain State Park, too, since there's not much accumulated under the swings. Of course being in the open on the shores of Lake Superior like that, doesn't give the snow much of a chance to settle to the ground when the winds are howling. Snowing, blowing or not, it's always great fun to act like a kid and enjoy the swings!

Hmmm... Think of the added wind chill. I will wait till spring. This is one of the colder winters in memory and I am feeling it more than I did a few years back. Can I be getting older?

I love the winter and watching people enjoying the out doors. I, however, prefer to cozy up under a lap throw, have a cup of coffee and a good book to talk with friends about! ... yes ... definitely getting older. :)

Are they really swinging or are the chains frozen stiff in that position?

OH to be young and foolish again. Now I'm just foolish!!!

Alex, my buddies from 'Da Tech" and I saw the swinging sign at the Green Light in Chassell had frozen at an angle like the swings and came up with the theory "In the Fall it Springs - and in the Spring it Falls." Seemed funny at the time, could have been because we spent some time inside enjoying the refreshments first. Amazing how the wind bares some places and buries others.

The memories I have of camping there and remembering my daughters swinging on those swings. I agree with you Deb S..to be young and foolish. I'm there with you on being foolish...

Looks like fun to me....age is a state of mind! I love a good swing on the swingset even now!

DITTO ON BRIAN'S COMMENT ABOUT AGE BEING A STATE OF MIND. If you don't mind it doesn't matter.
I TOO LOVE TO SWING AND STILL DO... I CANNOT PASS UP A SWINGSET! :) I HAVE ONE IN MY YARD THAT I USE OFTEN. The child within all of us is still alive so don't stifle it...GO SWING. The movement in itself is exhilarating. However you don't have to do it on a cold wintery day..try it this SPRING.

Deb S. I was born and raised in Lake Linden and graduated in 1960. When did you graduate?? I still get up to Lake Linden each June to do some fishing and have a cottage on Rice Lake with my brother. I look forward each year to getting back up to my roots.
I remember the swing sets at the Catholic elementary school I went 2 in Midland, and during the Winter, I sometimes had 2 use my feet 2 scoop the snow away so I could swing because I was kind of tall 4 my age.

I remember doing that when I was a kiddo back in the 60's or 70's . . . it seems like some things never change!
When I was a kid in grade school, I went to the playground of the school to play. I got on the swings and wanted to stand up on the swing seat and swing that way. As I got the swing going I decided to sit down. Well, something went wrong and the next thing I knew I was on the ground. Back then it was gravel you landed on. As far as injuries went- I remember cutiing up my elbows, but that is all I remember as far as injuries. I made it home because the school was a block from our house.

Tom, I graduated in '70. We'll be in LL from June 10th (my mom's b'day)until that Sunday.
I can't remember the last time we were there in June, so this will be different. Can't wait to go. But first, we're going Valentine's weekend. Have to check in with my mom and get things done that she can't do on her own.
When I was kid in 2nd or 3rd grade at the E. L. Wright School, in Hancock, a few of us tried to be the first getting as high as the bars. We were standing up and really going. I don't remember falling, but I woke up with the school nurse patting my cheeks and calling my name. Then I got scared. :o) I didn't stand up on a swing so much after that.

It has been a few years since I've logged in here, but it seems one thing never changes; all the people that love the U.P. and look forward to getting back 'home', no matter where they are now, or for the winter. Truly someplace special.
