Houghton, Mackinaw Island, Munising. By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 08:45 am: By Debi Steinle (Debi) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 09:50 am: Shouldn't it be Houghton, Hancock and Munising? Isn't Mackinaw Island considered Lower Michigan? By The (Zman) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 09:58 am: A few pictures from this years Heikinpäivä 2009 By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 10:15 am:
I didn't even see Hancock. I must have missed something. Why would Mackinac Island be considered Lower Michigan? It's much closer to St. Ignace than it is to Mackinaw City. Does anybody know which it's considered to be a part of? By john mich (Johnofmi) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 11:06 am: Mackinaw Island is part of Mackinaw county which is part of the U.P. which makes them all yoopers (same for Round island and Bois Blanc island) By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 11:32 am: In the 2000 picture of the polar bear dive, Isn't that Hancock in the background? By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 11:41 am:
Yup, you're right. That's on the Hancock side of the canal. Thanks for pointing that out for me. By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 12:15 pm: More excellent pics, but I don't think I would try the polar bear swim. brrrrrr!! By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 01:50 pm:
I love the pics of the snow statues on today's day in history. I've been UP three times now to see them live and they are amazing, sooo big, sooo intricate, sooo beautiful. By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 01:51 pm: thanks Zman for the Heikenpaivaa pics. Wish I could be there one year for it. By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 02:06 pm: Even though I was awareded the early bird, the polar bear dip is in Hancock. It is right at the Ramada Inn. By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 02:34 pm: But you were right, mickill, the Mining Gazette should be in Houghton, shouldn't it? And Mackinaw Island and Munising are definitely there. By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 04:00 pm:
The question is name 3 Michigan Northern towns. A lot of us can spot and name 4 towns but the question is to name 3 towns. What is funny is I never thought Mackinaw Island was cosidered a town? That is why I went back in and posted Houghton, Hancock and Munising. By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 04:25 pm:
"Mackinaw Island"? A little curiosity: Mackinaw Island City is technically larger than the Mackinaw Island, as the City of Mackinac Island not only exists on the island of the same name, but also takes in the entirety of nearby Round Island (an additional 378 acres)! By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Sunday, January 25, 2009 - 04:58 pm: ...and Mackinac Island does have a post office (Zip Code 49757). By Robert - CO (Halork) on Monday, January 26, 2009 - 03:26 am: Sorry, I've just got to post this.... Mackinac Island, and Mackinac County are both spelled with the 'c' at the end. The only spellings of "Mackinaw" with the 'w' at the end are: Mackinaw City, Mackinaw State Forest, the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, and a Mackinaw jacket. You may now return to relevant discussion.... By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Monday, January 26, 2009 - 03:58 am:
Robert - CO (Halork): I guess my opometrist was right, he told me I'm getting "cataracs"! (Or is that "cataraws"?) ![]() By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Monday, January 26, 2009 - 05:14 am: The Mackinac Bridge is also spelled with the 'c' on the end. | |||
