Who took the wintry picture of Haven Falls posted on this day a few years back? (One of my favorite Pasty Cam shots)

Good morning!

Love the last picture. I'm getting a little tired of winter pictures when I see the temperature out here being minus 20, lol. Where is spring??????

Has anybody heard from Taka? I don't think he has been on for ages and his CutOnion.com isn't working.

By Richard A. Fields (Cherokeeyooper) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 12:19 pm:

I saw they closed the schools in my hometown of Escanaba because it was too cold. It was only about -8. They never did that when I was young. What is going on, aere those kids getting soft? Why in my day . . . never mind.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 12:30 pm:

-6 this morning here and Walled Lake Schools were not closed. Not very windy, though. Tomorrow may be a different story.

It's sunny with a brilliant blue sky!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 12:49 pm:

I have been trying to check on Taka for a couple years anyway, to no avail. Schools are open here today, too. They have to close when it's too cold, partly because of liability.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 01:33 pm:

Maija, Walled Lk Schools had the last day of Final Exams today, no school tomorrow, teacher development day.

Wish I was in the Yoop right now!, oh well, back to work.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 02:04 pm:

Hi We had -10 yesterday morning (a new record low for the day) and -9 this morning. Our schools were open here in mid-Michigan. I second Marsha's story, though, tomorrow may be another story, when we get higher winds, which could really drop the wind chill temps. We had 4 snow days in December. I think we only have 5 built into the school calendar, so our kids may still be going to school by the 4th of July, if this frigid Arctic, snowy winter keeps up. :-( Global warming, I don't think so.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 02:28 pm:

Hey, Uncle Chuck: good news for the kids, but not for the teachers. Why districts don't let teachers work from home, as long as they get their grades/reports in, is totally beyond me. There will probably be black ice tomorrow. Why put all those people on the road unnecessarily!?

Sorry, I'm being logical again.

Yooper school kids aren't wimps - Consider this:

"Wind chills -20 to -45 today and ....."

Would you really want children waiting at bus stops in these temps?

Sitting on my patio today at a nice 80°F. Just a few scattered clouds drifting by. No wind to speak of. Debating what shorts and T top I will wear tomorrow. :)

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 07:45 pm:

Good evening from a very COLD Mishawaka, IN. We woke to lake effect snow and very low temps. The snow stopped this morning and the sun appeared. But the temps have gone even lower -11 at present. The Mishawaka schools were closed today and will be closed tomorrow. Our kids walk to school so we know they will close when the temps get lower than 10 with any wind at all.

My husband and I made a trip to Indianapolis today for my doctor appointment. Leaving Mishawaka at 6:30 am I wasn't so sure it was a good idea. An hour and 45 minutes later we were treated to a beautiful sunrise and blue skies. It was that way the rest of the trip. The temps in Indy were -5 when we arrived. The trip was beautiful. I did take a few pictures of the sunrise.

Stay warm everyone and safe.

These pics show Winter is scenic, even when it's cold.

By Ken ja Mimi from da UP (Kenjamimi) on Thursday, January 15, 2009 - 09:49 pm:

We woke up to a -11° F this morning in Cornell. But I know the temps would be much lower not far from here. Probably be colder tomorrow. That cold wind really bites the face! Oh well, the daylight's coming earlier and lasting later, so Spring is coming!

It is cold. Bundle up.
