First Post
Please allow me to give a long overdue Early Bird to the helper who often got me going in the morning over the past few years, our dog Buddy, who died unexpectedly Tuesday evening.
Edie and Buddy
Buddy was a Golden Retriever/Black Lab mix, who first performed his 'happy dance' here on the Pasty Cam back in 2004. He was adopted into our family by way of the Copper Country Humane Society, where he had been recovering from Parvo virus after being picked up wandering in Trap Rock Valley.

Late yesterday Buddy was doing his customary greeting, barking at visitors who come to our door. Perhaps his ailment as a puppy had weakened his heart, because he suddenly collapsed to the floor and breathed his last, unresponsive when we tried to revive him. He had seemed to be so healthy. You may have noticed buddy on Saturday's Pasty Cam, helping Edie clear the driveway:

We're going to miss our furry companion. Often in the early morning I'd sit down at the computer with Buddy by my side and tell him, "The people aren't up yet - it's just you and me and the Lord." He would tilt his head with a puzzled look, trying to understand.

We have come to know so many friends over the years through these daily visits. And the blessings have been too many to count, among them, our pets. We may feel sadness to let them go, but gratitude and thankfulness for the time we've had together.

Charlie: Sorry to hear about Buddy; I know how close we can get to man's best friend. I lost 2 dogs over the years, one in 1983 and one in 2004; I still get watery-eyed when I think about them. We now have a St. Bernard that is the most loving and affectionate dog anyone could ever ask to have. Hang in there; that's what Buddy would want you to do.

Gee Charlie it doesn't seem that long ago you got Buddy to replace your other faithful companion of many years who passed on if I recall correctly--?
This is too bad to hear of. Many of us share the pain of a close pets loss. It's only been a little over a year since we lost our 2 Labs who were sisters, one black, one golden. Luckily we kept 2 pups of one, also sisters one black, one golden. They too are an everyday part of our life and family!
Our condolences.

Oh Charlie, i'm so sorry to hear about Buddy. You have our deepest sympathy. What a shock to have him leave you that way --

As you say, he blessed your life the way our beloved pets do, and you blessed his by adopting him from the shelter. Can't even write those words without misting up.

Take care of each other during these sad days ahead.

Charlie, I am also very sorry to hear of your loss. I know how hard it is to lose the companionship of a beloved pet. I'm sure Buddy was very grateful for all the love that you and Edie gave him.

A beautiful tribute to 'Buddy'. Sometimes when I sit in the early morning with my three Cats at the computer I look to see if this Pasty Site has arrived. Little did I know the delite you shared with your Buddy to make my day start off right. My Sorrow and Prayers to you Charlie and your good wife, at your Great loss.

Charlie, I sit here with tears in my eyes at the suddenness of your loss. I know how it feels. And I'm so sorry for you that you had to watch that. Our pets are so much a part of our lives. We've had to put so many pets down, and each one is so hard. They're part of the family. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Good morning everybody! And a very Happy Birthday to Kay. Hope you have a great day, Kay!

Charlie and Edie: I am so sorry for your loss of your great friend and companion, Buddy! I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. Those of us who have lost treasured friends like that understand some of what you are going through. The suddenness makes it very hard. On the other hand, Buddy had a great life with you, and he never suffered! We're thinking of you. You have our deepest sympathy!

Life is full of trouble, much like the night sky.
Happiness comes only like lightning, briefly, for half a second...
And that amount of happiness, the poets say. is sufficient.
Sorry to hear about 'Buddy' Charlie, hope in this time of loss, the thoughts of what was found offers condolence

Charlie & Edie --

So sorry to hear about Buddy. It's always tough to lose such a friend. Take comfort in all the wonderful memories, and also that he left you in the middle of having a good time greeting visitors.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I have sent this before and someone falsely tried to scare people off about possible viruses. Please look at it: Turn volume up but have a kleenex handy.

http://www.indigo.org/rainbowbridge_ver2.html

It is the best animated site about the Rainbow Bridge put to music. I have forwarded it to several people over the years and never a virus. Just thanks and compliments!
We have a dog named Clyde at our HOPE shelter in Ironwood that is pretty similar to Buddy but I know it takes time to make that decision. He can be seen in the dog gallery at : http://www.hopeanimalshelter.org/

I, too, would like to wish Capt. Paul a happy birthday. In addition, I want to wish Dr. Nat a happy new year along with Capt. Paul.
Anytime you are inclined to post something regarding global temperatures I will be glad to read it. Thanks for your postings. They provide hope to see the future more realistically.
Now all we have to do is get rid of winter here in Green Bay. I am tired a breaking snowfall records.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 - 06:34 pm:

Sorry to hear of the passing of your companion Charlie. Will be broken hearted when Jimmie the fat white cat passes on. Happy birtday to three great people. Kay, Capt. Paul, and Russ. Three people who have made my boring life here in Berkley a little more interesting.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 - 07:51 pm:

Happiest Birthday to the Three Musketeers mentioned above. I hope you all get exactly what you want for your birthday and lots of cake.

And I'm sure there will be a new star up in Heaven tonight with Buddy's name on it.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 - 08:40 pm:

I'm proud to share my birthday with such fine fellows. Thank you for the greetings my friends. Isn't it rather difficult to have a birthday so near Christmas. My mom's was Dec. 28th and sister's Dec. 8th. I share the Hoppers' saddness at losing Buddy. But the love one gets from God's creatures makes up for our sorrow when they pass. I look forward to when I can have another critter to love and be loved. They are the Lord's special gifts for us.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 - 10:57 pm:

I would also like to wish Capt. Paul, Russ, and dear Ms. Katie a Happy Birthday. Wishing you good health, riches beyond your dreams, and a long life to be able to spend it. :)
Beverly
