Cowabunga, dude! Ever try to walk on water? In the middle of winter? These are a couple of the scenes Z-Man provided in his slideshow of the Heikinpäivä 2009 festivites over the weekend in Hancock. At times the windchill drove temps to about 30 below, but the show went on. Polar bear dives, wife carrying contest, boot throwing competition... more entertaining than the Super Bowl (Oh, I guess that's NEXT weekend).

Mary Drew is in transit today somewhere out West, where it's warmer, I'll wager. It's like old times doing the daily picture. I forgot how much work it is to pull all of this together, and I appreciate Mary's contributions over the last few years editing the daily pictures and comments. Next month we will pass the milestone of 4,000 consecutive days of the Pasty Cam, and I'm sure we wouldn't have come this far without the help of Mary and Z-Man and all of the contributors to these pages, both words and pictures... and the sponsors who make it possible. Thanks to all :o)

I'd have enjoyed watching--note, NOT plunging--the festivities.

I don't know if anyone caught it, but Paradise, MI was featured on NPR this morning. It was a part of a series they are doing on how communities were coping with the economy. The gist of it is that snowmobile tourism is down this year.
