Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:34 am:

Over the past 10, how many years showed people sitting or sliding on snow?

By Kenty (Dashamo) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:37 am:

Three?

By Kenty (Dashamo) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:37 am:

Everyone else was standing.

By Brad Uren (Yooperdoc) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:39 am:

Two. Three other years have people standing.

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:40 am:

four

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:46 am:

Lets clarify the question: How many years were people seen on snow? (sitting, standing, sliding, whatever)

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:49 am:

five

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:50 am:

we have five pictures

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:50 am:

10?

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:54 am:

there are eight pictures with snow, five of the pictures have people doing something on snow.

And we suppose in the other 3, the PHOTOGRAPHERS were standing or sliding on snow! We'll have to award a whole FLOCK of Early Birds on today's page.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:54 am:

Five!

Good morning, though it's not so good for me. I hope you all have a great day, though.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 07:56 am:

8 if you count the people sliding on skies.

The question was about the number of years, not the number of people.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:02 am:

My mistake...you wanted years, not people (tricky).

By Brooke (Lovethekeweenaw) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:05 am:

That last picture I would think counts, since that train definitely slid and I'm sure the people were while digging it out.

Good Morning everyone. Did anyone else see Santa on the lift bridge this morning?

By RD, Iowa (Rdiowa) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:06 am:

I think Brad should have won. The snowboard and the playground slide fit the original question, with people in the other three years appearing to be standing still (even though in two of those years they are on skis.)

By John W Anderson (Wd8rth) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:09 am:

Well, one could be standing on the dirt road, the other two where in snow. but, did not show anybody. hihi

One thing's for sure: We'll have to start choosing our words more carefully for the Early Bird question!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:18 am:

I thought Brad should have won also. That was my original answer until I scrolled down and saw the question got revised!!!

By john mich (Johnofmi) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 08:39 am:

Too late! I already took my Early Bird and spent it.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 09:18 am:

Smart thinking John…especially during these economic times. A bird in the hand is better than waiting for a bailout decision.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 09:26 am:

Tricky question today. A lot of people should have gotten the early bird.

Would the two kids coming down the playground slide be considered sitting AND sliding??

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 09:41 am:

LOL! John and Alex, I got a nice morning giggle out of your responses! Thanks. Deb S., once again, condolences in your loss. May God comfort you and your family during this very sad time.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:22 am:

LOL Charlie! You're going to have to start simplifing your questions. These yoopers/wannabes are startiong to sound like a bunch of lawyers!!!!!!!!!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:31 am:

HEY CHARLIE, WHAT ARE THE 'FIVE. CORRECT YEARS?

2002 - 2003 - 2004 - 2006 - 2007

By Richard A. Fields (Cherokeeyooper) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 11:09 am:

I have a favor to ask from my PastyCam friends. My former mother in law used to make Christmas date cookies. The thing I liked, was they had a cookie, a date spread, and a cookie on top. I have looked online to try and find out how to make them, but can't find a recipe for them. Since my wife passed on, I lost touch with her family, so I was hoping this might have been a UP Christmas thing (my mother couldn't boil water, let alone bake!) So, does anyone have an idea of how to make these? I would like to make some for my daughters, but don't know how. Thanks.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 12:38 pm:

It has been so long since I been on a date I sure can not remember that cookie. The temp is up to 60 and climbing, good day!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 01:15 pm:

LOL! Well, David, another good one! :-D

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 01:46 pm:

How 'bout fig Newtons? They even had cookie on 2 sides. Date spread in the middle. No work to make 'em either.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 01:53 pm:

Hey Richard, I think I have that recipe somewhere. If I can find it I'll pass it on. Grandma Slattery of Hubble used to make them and they were one of my favorite. Hang on, I'll look. Was just checking the pasty cam to see if anyone had a comment about our latest Illinois crook, the govener was arrested this morning. Hey we either produce presidents or crooks here! LOL!

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 02:09 pm:

I just saw it. Un*******believable! The governor trying to sell Barack Obama's senate seat!? My son told me, and I made some crude response back to him. "No, look," says he, and there it was on CNN.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 03:33 pm:

Mskatie....you had to insert the word "or"? lol Guess I'd better be careful or Charlie will kick me over onto the 'other' page.:)

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 03:36 pm:

Darn tootin me love Fig Newton's. Me ain't never hered of no cokkie you give yer daughter's before dey go out on a date. I wana see dat der recipe fer me Grandaughter's,if it ain't fulla contraception's.

By Marianne Y (Marianne) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 05:16 pm:

Richard (CherokeeYooper), I had no idea that your wife passed away. That is way too young, for heaven's sakes! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your daughters!

Ms. Katie, if you have that recipe, it sounds wonderful; I would like to see it, too, please! Many thanks!

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 06:20 pm:

Now about Fig Newtons, Rowdy, if they have dates on 'em, why don't they call 'em *Date Newtons*?

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 10:20 pm:

My first grade reading students had the word "fig" in their reading books (it's a good short "i" word). Of course, they didn't know what a fig was, so I always brought in Fig Newtons. When I asked the kids if they'd ever had them before, they invariably said they had them at their grandparents (or great-grandparents) house! Apparently, you have to be of a certain age to buy Fig Newtons.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 11:00 pm:

My mom used to make some date bars that I think were called Matrimonial Bars (I don't know why) with an oatmeal crust on the top and bottom. I think I have the recipe somewhere; I'll look and send it to you. I would like the one that you guys are talking about as well. I love dates; in fact, I just ate the last of the dates I bought recently.

By kay Moore (Mskatie) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 11:12 pm:

Cindy I have that recipe too and it's so good. Mine is rather crumbly but very good. Haven't eaten anything with dateas for a while. May it's time for a little baking again.

By Liz B (Lizidaho) on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 - 11:34 pm:

Kay and Cindy, both those recipes were wonderful.
We always knew when Mom was making the date filling because the house sniffed so wonderful when we came home from school. Loved squishing the date stuff out the sides of the oatmeal rounds then licking off.
