When you're looking to buy a home in the Copper Country, probably one of the considerations is the location and the view. So I wonder if John Sturos did the same thing when he was looking for a job? If so, he sure picked a good place to work with a view of the Portage Canal outside his window. Fortunately for us, he takes his camera to work with him and every so often, snaps an interesting shot to share with us. Today's photos make a report on the canal having frozen over near the Lift Bridge, but it looks like that ice is quite unstable by the number of cracks spreading out and around. In John's second picture, he not only zooms in on the watery looking spot, but captures the shadows of the trees and observation decks on the surface of the ice covering. Kind of looks like an artist's canvas with the beginnings of a painting underway.

I don't know about you, but an office with a view like this one would be detrimental to my job performance. :->

Happy day!

Mary, a few years back I had a job in the big city and the only view I had were of basement walls, cubicles and a few plants. So, yes, there are times when the view can be detrimental to my job performance. I think (and hope) my boss understands. Thank goodness no snowmobiles have tried crossing the canal yet.

Good picture, that must be from the UPPCO building and they do have a nice view there.

A picture of my second favorite bridge; the first, of course, is the Mighty Mac. My sons would call the Houghton/Hancock bridge the Mini Mac. Great photo on a cold winter morning! John, thank you for sharing your view with those of us who are unable to be there to see our favorite sites. Have a wonderful day in one of my favorite areas.

Mary:
You may be right in that it has the potential to be detrimental, but I wouldn't mind giving it a try...

Beautiful pic from a beautiful place! I agree with John! I hope no one tries to cross the canal yet! Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. Its 74 degrees in Mississippi and very muggy....I cant wait to get home to Bootjack next week for some real holiday weather!

I guess we are just going to have to get use to 'that thing' being in the shot of the bridge. I keep saying I am glad I have pictures of the bridge without that building being in the shot.

It is a beautiful picture of the lift-bridge just the same. So is the other one of the, somewhat, frozen canal. :O)

After looking at the two pictures, of the bridge and canal, I looked at the bridge cam picture and it looks like a white out and/or snowing. The time was 11:50 am.

Here is a link to the Pasty Cam's Keweenaw Snow Thermometer showing the snow total for Keweenaw County so far... Daryl

I love that snow thermometer. Thank You, Daryl.

We are in for some more snow tommorow (thursday) night and all day Friday. Then again Sunday. It might give Bill a chance to dig out on Saturday. He also keeps a driveway clear for an elderly couple who live around the corner from us, just in case she needs the ambulance for her husband.

I am not up to building a snowman this time around. I still have time to make another one.;O)

Big Bad John,

Another nice shot out the windows of your office building.

Stan the Man, sent me a similar shot, so Mary and I assume that you two are joined at the hip.

Great photo of the frozen canal, reminds me of my days with the Polar Bear Club and our annual dips in the icy water.
