We're looking down the main street of Lake Linden, known as either Calumet St. or M-26. The first shot is looking north, with the Lake Linden-Hubbell School and St. Joseph Church visible through the falling snowflakes. That's the school crossing guard, Don, with his brightly colored signs warning motorists to slow down and watch for kids. He has one of those jobs that it doesn't matter what the weather is doing, he still has to be standing out there with his stop sign, making sure the kids cross the highway safely each day. Pretty important job if you ask me!

In the second photo, we're a few blocks further south and we're looking north, again. You can just make out Lakes Pharmacy and Lindell's (on the left) through the snowy scene. The flakes were quite big and coming down pretty good , because just standing there taking the pictures for a few minutes, I was covered completely white. Rumor around town is that Lindell's is going to be opening again soon, under new owners, but I haven't heard just when yet. It'll be nice to see that historic, town landmark opened once again. They have a neat display of old toys and dolls in one of the windows right now, including a Betsy McCall doll with "bendy" legs like I had as a little girl. Fun to see the old things you used to play with like that, too bad I didn't hang on to mine.

I DO HOPE THEY OPEN LINDELLS AGAIN. I USE TO GO THERE FOR BRAKFAST BEFORE I WENT FOR A WALK. TO TELL YA THE TRUTH I USE TO LIKE TO LISTEN TO THE OLD FOLKS,SAID WITH LOVE AND AFFECTION,AND WHAT THEY WERE SAYING. IT FELT LIKE SITTING AROUND AS A KID AND LISTENING TO YOUR ELDERS TELL STORIES. THAT ONE 'CHARACTER' IN THE FAMILY THAT HAD STORIES TO TELL THAT WERE SO UNBELIEVABLE- YOU THOUGHT, AS A KID, THEY WERE TRUE. THAT IS THE 'FEELING' I GOT FROM GOING TO LINDELLS AND HOPE TO EXPERIENCE IT AGAIN. I TRULY MISS IT.

ANOTHER THING I LIKED ABOUT EATING AT LINDELLS IS THAT I NEVER FELT RUSHED BECAUSE THE WAITRESS WANTED THE BOOTH. I WOULD ALWAYS LEAVE HER A NICE TIP THOUGH. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AT A RESTAURANT IN ROYAL OAK. BEFORE I WAS DONE SHE KEPT ASKING ME IF I WOULD LIKE A TO GO CONTAINER. THEN AT ONE POINT SHE TOOK MY PLATE AND I WAS NOT DONE. I COLD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY SHE WAS DOING THAT BECAUSE IT WAS 1/2 BEFORE THE LUNCH CROWD AND PEOPLE WERE NOT COMING IN YET. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT IS HOW THEY MAKE THIER TIPS, BUT NOBODY WAS COMING IN YET. NEEDLESS TO SAY SHE DID NOT GET A VERY GOOD TIP FROM ME.

I DID NOT FEEL THAT WHEN I WENT TO LINDELLS.

"GOOD MORNING", I SURE LOOK FORWARD TO LINDELLS OPENING. THE WIFE AND I ALWAYS GO THERE FOR BREAKFAST AND LUNCH WHEN WE ARE IN THE COPPER COUNTRY. YOU ARE NEVER RUSHED THERE, AND THE WAIT STAFF WERE ALWAYS SO NICE. AS A MATTER OF FACT I'AM DRINKING MY TEA IN A LINDELLS MUG AS I TYPE.

Speaking of Lindell's reminds me, What is the status of the gas station in Lake Linden?

Is Lindell's going to be open during the winter now?

I've heard that from several different sources now. I though----at least from back a few years ago----that they were doing just the opposite, namely, opening in the summer and shutting in the winter. I assume that something has changed(?)

Thanks!

Great pictures of the home town. They make me lonely. Just got off the phone with my folks, and then to come in here and see Lake Linden, sometimes it's hard.

Lindell's is my best memories of high school days. I do so hope it reopens.

Pretty nice to know that Mary is standing at the corner of Calumet and 2nd in the second shot; exactly 2 blocks to the left up 2nd is where I used to live in Lake Linden.

It would be nice to see Lindell's open again, especially when we are up there next summer. Always loved the breakfast they served, especially when they were free when my Mom used to work there in the mid 90's.........

My mom lived on 6th Street in Lake Linden til she passed away in 2006. She lived more close to the top of 6th Street, past Saw street. When I would drive up 6th St.- I use to slow down a little bit when I got close to Saw St. because people use to get a ruuning start from the bottom of Saw St. til they got to the top then make a slight turn to the right, on 6th Street, as if they were not going to stop. I do miss it.
