I remember working those old switchboards, a lot more personal than todays robot connections!!! And I'm envious every evening of Sharon Smith's journal enteries!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 06:50 am:

I have a picture of a black squirrel with a brown tail.

By Smfwlk (Trollperson) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 07:24 am:

I worked those old switchboards in Alaska back in 1971 - how things have changed since then!!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 07:42 am:

Mickill...we have the same color squirrel in Birmingham, MI where I work. It must be a fashion trend this year.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 07:46 am:

Speaking of voting...2002 gets mine. Good catch Sharon.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 08:35 am:

Good morning gang! I became a grandma again this morning at 12:43. Raina Alexis was born on her mom's b'day weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. Not sure of her height yet. Son was tired and couldn't remember. Don't understand that, but that's my son for you. Am taking a half day off of work to go and see her. Will put a picture on the New Arrivals page when I get some. So exciting, no matter how many you have!!!

Okay, 2001 was gorgeous, but any time the big lake is in the decade in review, I'm going with it. So 2002 gets my vote also. 2007 is a close 2nd.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 08:48 am:

Deb and Mr. Deb, Congratulations on the birth of your new granddaughter, Raina. Congrats to the new parents also.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 08:50 am:

Congrats Grandma Deb! Can't wait to see the pictures!!

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 09:11 am:

Congrats Grandma and Grandpa Deb's! I'm definitely with you, in that it doesn't matter if you have 10 grandchildren already, a new one is always exciting. Have fun holding your new little princess!

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 09:19 am:

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW GRANDCHILD. :0))

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 09:23 am:

Alex: The squirrel I have a picture of was taken on a ride through Belle Isle. We sometimes take a ride out there on a Sunday morning.

By Eugene Zuverink (Zube) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 09:33 am:

Thats so nice Deb, Like the bumper sticker says

If we knew how nice Grandchildren are ,we would have had them first.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 09:52 am:

Congratulations Raina Alexis on your new Grandparents the Deb's, we don't know their weight, you and Mommy can sing Happy Birthday to each other, so wonderful!!

In case you didn't see it on the Pasty Cam page, I'm posting this here, too:

I just received word from both Neil Harri and Daryl Laitila about the completion of Neil's newest DVD.
It is called Isle Royale Autumn - Shipwrecks, Lighthouses & Northwoods wilderness
There are over 150 incredible photos of Isle Royale. Here are just a few... Isle Royale landmarks such as Middle Island Passage and Moskey Basin, Rock Harbor, Passage Island, McCargoe Cove, Chippewa Harbor, Siskiwit Bay, Lake Desor, Washington Harbor, Windigo, and the famous Rock of Ages Lighthouse.
For anyone that has ever been to or wants to go to Isle Royale, this is a real treasure.

This is the third DVD in Neil's fall color tour series, joining two previous fall tour DVD's:
Autumn Aerial Tour of the Keweenaw Peninsula and Autumn Aerial Tour of South Houghton and Baraga Counties.
They can all be found on Neil's website: neilharriphotos.com, along with a number of other great gift giving ideas. Don't forget, Christmas is just around the corner!

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 10:23 am:

...and you can't help but love the name, Raina ALEXis

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 10:23 am:

You took your squirrel on a ride to Belle Isle?

Try this, you will need a calculator I will wait. Ok you got it. Good.

157 people took their squirrel's on a picnic - enter 157

they brought along 588 cases of nuts - enter 588

It cost 69 dollars to rent 2 busses to get there. - enter 69 then x 2 busses = where did they go on the picnic?

Turn the calculator over or upside down if you will and read. Some people have to much time on their hands

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 11:25 am:

TO DAVID; YOU SEEM TO HAVE TO MUCH TIME ON YOUR HANDS TO MAKE A POSTING LIKE YOURS.
PICKY-PICKY ;O))

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 12:16 pm:

Time is money. My wife is the only one who SRCEAMS at me, now I got to turn the volume down on you Mousey. I see you now know how to edit. Do you have that digital camera all figured out yet? You do realize it is all in good fun on here?

My vote goes to the 1999 Northwood's shore picture. It is like me, clam and relaxing.

By Alex "UP-Goldwinger" (Alex) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 01:10 pm:

David...I got a calm and relaxing feeling when I saw your profile photo of you holding an axe in one hand and a chicken in the other:)

By the way, I have been going to Gatlinburg every year since the mid-80s. This year I finally rode the Wing on the Cherohala Skyway.

Next year is Tail of the Dragon.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 01:34 pm:

Why did the chicken cross the road????

After seeing David's profile photo, I have a pretty good idea..........

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 01:57 pm:

TO DAVID:
I DO NOT HAVE EXTRA MONEY, BUT I HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD. ;O)) WHO IN THE WORLD SAID I WAS SCREAMING?

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 02:34 pm:

In the world of computer communication, capital letters are yelling.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 02:52 pm:

LIKE I SAID ONCE BEFORE, SOMETIMES IT IS EASIER FOR ME TO READ.

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 03:08 pm:

My profile photo is my pet Rooster. His name is BHO. I was waiting until after the election to see what his fate would be. He is still with us, and now get's treated like Royalty. Most of my chickens like to be held and pampered, and reward us with fine egg's which I highly praise them for. They have enough area to Free Range in, and always come home to roost. If he dose cross the road, he would have to hop the fence and lose some weight, as would I. There are some fighting Rooster's on the other side of the road, and it be best we both stay on our side of it. The theme for our kitchen is none other then Rooster's.

Happy trails to you Alex, and thank's for the links. Thanks Cindy for explaining what YELLING is. I don't think she knows how to unlock the cap's. GET YOURSELF SOME GLASSES THEN ! G-wiz stop repeating your self too.

By mickill mouse (Ram4) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 03:40 pm:

TO DAVID; DOES YOUR ROOSTER HAVE TO TAKE A DOSE OF SOMETHING BEFORE HE CROSSES THE ROAD? ONCE AND FOR ALL- TO EVERYBODY- I DO KNOW WHAT IT MEANS WHEN A PERSON TYPES IN CAPS IN THE COMPUTER WORLD AND YES I DO KNOW HOW TO WORK MY DIGITAL CAMERA AND A LOT OF PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BEING SO PICKY WITH OTHER PEOPLES POSTING. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING I POSTED JUST ASK WHAT I MEANT. BUT, TO BE SO "PICKY" AT HOW SOMEONE POSTS SOMETHING IS SO CHILDISH IT IS UNBIEVABLE AND RIDICULOUS.

By Janie T. (Bobbysgirl) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 03:52 pm:

David H. Is your rooster a Rhode Island Red? Do you have Rhode Island Red hens, the brown egg layers? My favorites!

By David Hiltunen (Davidcorrytontn) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 05:18 pm:

Yes, we have them kind with others. I get brown, green, and beige color egg's. I am new at this chicken hobby since Easter this past Spring. I always enjoyed going to Russ E. place and getting fresh eggs. This new little feed store opened up last Spring just up yonder and had baby chicks for sale, along with Quail when I checked them out for dog food. Got to support your local businesses. I have 11 now, A pair of Polish fancy ones, a pair of small ones, the male is black and red, and the female is white and black, I forget what kind they are? A white hen, a mix of red and white, and the reds normal size. They started laying early October. I get 3 eggs a day. I have two to many Rooster's and I gave to my neighbor a beautiful white one, ya know with the red trim, she has 3 hens. I know one Rooster can service up to 30 hens. Yesterday she nearly lost the Big white one. One of her Great Danes, the big black one Titus, got out of his pen and into the chickens. Titus is not a killer, he plays with cats. But unlike cats the chickens had no place to go. They are all doing ok still today. I guess we got on this topic because of Alex and the Captain Paul.

mickill mouse you are a newby. We are knot picking on you for any other reason other then that! And of course it amuses me, along with some others on here we are just having fun. I am not childish just a crazy old Yooper. Have you not been around any long enough to know one when you see one? I really did think you took the squirrel on a ride to Belle Isle the way you wrote it to take it's picture.

For those of you who do not have a calculator turn your monitor upside down to read the number below.
31517738 to find out where the picnic was.

By Snowman (Snowman) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 06:24 pm:

David, you must be gettin' frequent "fryer" miles.

By Cindy Pihlaja Russell (Gone2long) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 08:27 pm:

Speaking of lullabies...does anyone know the words in Finnish to a lullaby that goes something like this (forgive my spelling, I don't know how to spell in Finnish):

Beum Baum baukkas
Lenis mittas laukkas....

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I think it says something about a rabbit running through the woods....

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, November 7, 2008 - 10:01 pm:

Yes, Cindy. My Grandma used to sing it to me when I was a little
girl. I have no idea how to spell what she sang either, but this is
how I remember it sounding:

Bew, Bow, bawka,
Yenis sa lekka sa lauka

It was something about a rabbit.

She sang another one too

Kikurri kaukkuri, Kiiria linttu
Dobissa bydinna sinnia sintu

I think that one had something to do with a bird and blue skim
milk.

I wish I could remember more. Grandma died fourteen years
ago and I should have asked her about these songs while she
was alive.

Congrats to the Debs on being grandparents again.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, November 8, 2008 - 07:47 am:

Thank you to everybody who congratulated us on our new little princess. That first day their head is always a little off, lol. But she is a doll anyway. And my son says she's such a good baby. I just laughed to myself and thought, "Wait 'til you get her home, lol."
