Continuing our tradition of honoring friends who have passed on...
Beatrice Destrampe Donald M. Hannula Lempi Hill Clifford Palosaari Fritz Tauriainen Roy Taskila Scott Trudell The men and women who gave all for their country
You are welcome to add names of those whom you want to remember and honor as well. Our special thanks goes to Joe Kirkish, who captured such a lovely Lake Superior sunset. Joe served as a staff volunteer for many years at Still Waters, long before Pasty Central was born. The past few weeks we have been recounting the story of how Pasty Central started, and the role it had in adding years of life to the Home for the Aged where it began. This week we relate a shift in elder-care regulations and economic pressures that called for drastic measures, in Part III of our current Pasty Cameo series.
As always, thanks for stopping by Pasty Central. Have a good week :o)

I saw the Coast Guard ship(or boat) 'Hollyhock' in Port Huron this past Friday morning. It was so early that I saw them raise the flag and then blew taps, if that is what it is called, to start the day. As that was going on I saw the sailor saluting. I stood there with my hand over my heart then I heard them announce that breakfast is now being served. I got some pictures of him raising the flag. It was emotional. All the men and women who put there lives on the line for us. I STAND AND SAY "THANK YOU" FOR YOUR SERVICE IN PROTECTING ME.

From an old memory, US Navy 1951-1953, morning bugle call for raising the flag was just called colors, or to the colors. It was blown, and the flag was raised at 8 AM local time.

My mother, Dolores Carson, who died one month ago today. I miss her here with me on my weekends off, sharing the Sunday paper over breaklast, her sitting at the table with her coffee and cereal, reading articles out loud that I had read already while she was in bed, me half-listening to the words but cherishing her voice, the tilt of her head, the way the sun outlines her hair like a nimbus. Sometimes it feels that, if I turn my head quickly, I will catch her sitting in a chair head bent over a book, or standing by the window watching birds and the snow falling. Or standing at my stove polishing the ceramic surface which she always enjoyed doing for me. I miss filling plastic bottles with warm water and prewarming her bedclothes. I miss her hugs terribly, the way in her last months at the nursing home after her stroke she enfolded me in her arms and rocked me, saying, You're here, you're here. Then she would ask brightly, Are we going to do something fun?
So many things she taught us, by example more than words, and the lessons of her last months are the most poignant. Cherish family, give thanks daily, fall in love every day with beauty. And love God, always and every moment.

We're doing fine, Les, we're moving on and we are busy with many things. But we miss you every day; we miss your laughter and the bright spirit of your life. It's so comforting to know you're safe in God's arms (probably telling the angels about thimbleberry jam, eh?)
Don't know if anyone knew Lempi Hill but she was a wonderful lady. I had the pleasure of being at her last birthday party......we got her a crown to wear. She thought that was so funny...we took some really great pictures of her with her crown....little did we know those pictures will remind us of what a sweetheart she was. I send Bev and Stanley warm wishes and Love.
