As promised earlier in the week, we're bringing you some winter aerial shots from Marquette County, which is the latest DVD Aerial Tour from the collection E. Neil Harri has available on his webpage, or to include with your holiday pasty order.

The first two photos were snapped out over Marquette Harbor and is looking at two different angles of the Marquette Lighthouse. Painted red like that, it sure stands out against the snowy white background. Sure helps to make this beacon more visible to any passing freighters still out on the shipping lanes in the daylight hours.
From the Lake Superior shores, Neil then headed inland to more mountainous areas, such as Marquette Mountain. Home to the areas ski hills, which by the way, opened for the season as of Nov. 22nd, when Neil snapped the third photo. Looks like a pretty decent snow cover on the various trails that make up the ski hills.

Before heading back to the hanger, we get to fly over one more mountain region in Marquette County. At the foothills of the Huron Mountains, the Salmon Trout River cuts through the forested land, winding, twisting and turning on its way.

This is only a taste of the treat that's in store in Neil's latest addition to the Aerial DVD series he has created. This Marquette County Tour promises to be just as beautiful as the fall tour DVD's that would be a welcome gift for anyone on your Christmas list. Neil said it will be ready to join the DVD tour series, in December. Be sure to include a DVD and Pasty Cam 2009 Calendar (also by Neil) with your gift of pasties this year. While you're at it, order some for yourself. You'll be glad you did!

Friends and family will enjoy these super aerial photos once again, Neil. Thanks to all at Pasty Net who share their wonderful photos, making it possible to enlighten the rest of the country; and, in my case, other countries to the uniqueness of the Upper Peninsula. Charlie, your cameos are such a delight, so informative and much appreciated.

there is supposed to be a gold prospect somewhere in the woods behind marquette mountain and behind the state prison. i always wanted to hike back there and find it

By E. Neil Harri (Ilmayksi) on Friday, November 28, 2008 - 11:42 am:

Thanks for the comments. The Marquette DVD is the first in the winter series because of their high snowfall this month. There are a few fall color images on it as well to contrast the snow. I didn't have time to finish shooting the Marquette autumn DVD this year so I included a few color shots in this one. It is quite a contrast between the seasons.
Thanks to the great work of Daryl Laitila, of Keweenaw Graphics Web Design, the DVD master will be ready today.

Does anyone know if you can get trees there this year? and if you can was it a cut your own or pre cut? I am looking for a nice place to go and cut my own tree this year, the one I have gone to for years is now closed.

That Salmon Trout River pic sure looks beautiful now. Will be interesting to see what that area looks like after the sulfide mines go in, which will be tunneled thru Eagle Rock directly under the Salmon Trout River, courtesy RIO Tinto/Kennecott. The aerial shot gives you a good perspective of the relationship of the proximity of the river to Lake Superior. Once the mines go in, Neil, this pic will generate a lot of interest, and probably profit for you.

Wonderful. Just wonderful! I grew up there, know McCarty's cove like the back of my hand, but never saw it like this before! Love the snow, and didn't realize it was so much like an arrowhead pointing into the water.

Wonderful!
