No, it isn't the end of the month already, we're only about halfway there right now. But when this photo was pointed out to me, I just couldn't wait another two weeks to share it with everyone.
The sun rises and the sun sets, it happens every day and many of those days we don't even notice it happening. That is, until one like this colors the horizon. Sharon Smith captured the spectacle from her Copper Harbor home. The brilliant rosy hue seems like it's been absorbed right into the clouds in the sky and the waters below, making you stop and ponder the beauty found in nature. It's Friday, time to relieve some of the stress that has built up all week, so take a moment and "drink in" the resplendence of this scene. It's just what the Dr. ordered!

Funny, I don't remember Dr. Nat ordering up a sunset like that, but I'm sure she'll take credit for it!! Maybe it's because of all the well-wishes she received yesterday because of her birthday ;-)
Beautiful photo; already my desktop background.......

Just looking at the picture brings a calmness to one's soul. I can't wait until the next time I'm in the UP to experience it in person.

So that's what the sun looks like? All we have is gray skies, clouds, fog, rain and wind. :(

You are my sunshine My only sunshine. You make me happy When skies are grey. You'll never know, Superior dear, How much I love you. Please don't take my Superior sunshine away

Neat ditty, David! I used her sunset at home for a screen saver when she posted it. And, I let my family know. It is so stunning and was just what I needed that day.

When I looked out the door and saw that, I said, "Oh, WOW!" and grabbed the camera. It seemed like the entire atmosphere was glowing red, even around the house. They don't get like that very often, and I'm so glad I was able to catch it. It's my wallpaper, too, so I can sit and remember it anytime. Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. I was just in the right place at the right time. Of course, I'm always in the right place...

Sharon, A couple of quick questions... Which peak is Brockway - thhe one on the left or the right? Then what is the other one? Thanks!

SHARON; GREAT PICTURE. LOOKS LIKE YOU LIKE SUNSETS AND SUNRISES AS MUCH AS I DO HERE IN THE LOWER. I TRY TO GET SOME SHOTS WHENEVER WE HAVE THE WEATHER THAT COOPERATES. JIM. LOWER MI.

Whenever I see a sunset like this one I think of the impressionist painters like Claude Monet and others who were considered radicals for their colorful replications of landscapes. After all, who would seriously paint a red sea. If Claude had painted this scene it would be worth 40-50 million today. Great million dollar photo, Sharon. I can't wait to see your photo of a purple-gray sky, purple whitecaps and great streaks of white snow flakes :-)

My thinking is that Brockway is on the right and I think the Keweenaw Lodge area is on the left. And the two dots of light are in Copper HArbor.
