Not all birds fly south for the winter, which is a very good thing, because the winter months would seem much longer if we didn't have these feathered friends to feed and watch as the flit about. Robert C. Wetton snapped a Purple Finch as it was busy looking somewhere else. Then Frederic W. Koski was able to capture a little song bird as it performed a balancing act on a dried looking weed. Quite an amazing feat, to be able to perch like that on something so unstable looking. I'm not able to put a name to this little bird, but am hoping that one of our Pasty Cam viewers can help me out with that problem. Anyone?

Always enjoy the bird pictures - thanks Mary!

I'm glad they don't all fly south too. Winter would be much longer without them. I, too, think it is some kind of sparrow.

Birds are my Favorite too. I love trying to capture them in photos. Right now I am trying to lure the pileated woopecker family to our big suet bag. Hope they find it. Ellen

Very nice bird pictures! The second one definitely is a song sparrow. I hope everyone is having a great day! Best wishes, Renee

Fred's pic is not a chipping sparrow. My book shows the chipping sparrow to have a red 'hat', a black bar through the eye, and a white breast. I can't find this little guy in my book. But, isn't it a cute thing?

Definetly NOT a Song or Chipping Sparrow. Fall & winter sparrows are tough to ID especially with just 1 pic view even tho this photo is very nice.
I'm thinking Swamp Sparrow, (melospiza georgiana) but possibly a Lincolns Sparrow (melospiza lincolnii)
