Sometimes in order to get the perfect shot, you just have to be in the right place, at the right time. Joyce Tormala sure seems to have the knack for doing just that as today's photos prove, as Joyce encountered these two deer that came down to the shores of Gitche Gumee for a refreshing drink. At first they didn't notice her behind the camera and were just enjoying a romp in the Big Lake. When they finally did spot her, they spun on their heels, stuck those fluffy white tails high in the air and headed in the opposite direction. It's a good thing Joyce didn't get "buck fever" when she was trying to shoot these two!

Good morning all!! Beautiful pictures. Have a great Thursday. Here in Midland the weather is again suppose to be very nice. But come Friday evening, not so nice...

Hi
Looking at the addtional pictures in Joyce's gallery (which are great--good eye, Joyce!), I wonder if the deer were in the water because the footing was better rather than because they were romping. It looks like a strip of stand instead of the rocks on shore.

Fantastic pic! I'd love to walk a mile in those hooves. I'm sure in the third photo they are thinking, "I wonder if this tail makes my butt look big?"

OH I love those pictures. They are truly fantastic. How I would have loved to be there. You are very lucky, Joyce. Abolutely wonderful!!!

I guess that I'm getting emotional in my old age; what beautiful creatures. I can't believe that I used to hunt deer. Although venison is delicious.

Boy, Alex, you've got a million of 'em today! LOL
Joyce, beautiful photo subjects! You're very fortunate living so near Gitche Gumee! Ahhh, the life!!

Either I'm seeing things or there are a number of folks out there in the background doing some agate picking...

Great pictures - I was born and raised in White Pine and now living in Montana - sure do miss the fall colors. Thank you for sharing!

What a beautiful photo! I can just imaging sitting on the shore with the warm breeze in my hair, the sound of the waves washing up on shore with my eyes half closed just relaxing and the two deer come out to the shore. The light in this photo is great. This is one of my favorite photos ever because for me it is what the UP is all about and why we all love it so! Thanks for sharing the photo.

Thanks folks! I have seen deer many a time while shuffling along the beach but never this close. I was hunched over, digging in the rock piles, when I scanned the beach and spotted the deer. I was certain they'd see me since the sun was to their backs but they were too busy enjoying the balmy temps and the cool splash of the waves. I quietly called Paco to my side and gripped her collar while trying to hold the camera steady with my other hand. The deer kept coming. I did not move. When they were a few feet from us,Paco couldn't resist the urge to let out a few muffled woofs and POOF! they were gone. Be it yard, woods or beach, the great outdoors always has something to offer!
